Default Mrs JJ's New Scout

As many of you know, we sold her really nice original 1975 Scout II. We got this one from squidscout in Blytheville Arkansas a few weeks ago. It had been hit pretty hard on the passenger side front. But since she wanted a Scout to take the top off and cruise around the lake, this was the better candidate of the two. It is a 1979 and features a freshly rebulit 345 and 727 combo, new tires, and was rhino-lined from firewall to tailgate, floors and top. The top appears to have been off many times. Although it once had factory ac, all that is left is the comp bracket under the hood. That will be another project a bit later this year.

Here is some damage shots:

Once it was back here in Dville, the assement was made. The clock shows less than 100k, but we know how that goes. The engine has new freeze plugs and is nice and clean looking through the oil filler hole. The tranny has been out and is shiney clean, so we feel like it is as advertised, not to mention the tires still have the rubber tips on them.

Cab mounts and floors are perfect. I located rust in the lift hatch, drivers side rocker, and small quarter spot in the drivers side quarter, 100% manageable. It has a body lift on it, I think that is what saved it from frame damage.

Our very own Levi gave me the idea of pulling it out. I used a grade 8 bolt. Put a piece of leaf spring down inside the A piller, ran the bolt thru the hole in the spring as well as thru the factory hole that was already in the A piller. I then got my Terra real close to the side, chained the drivers side to a tree so that it wouldn't slide, and started pulling with the winch:

By gosh if it didn't work! The holes in the top magically re-alligned, and I was able to put sheetmetal back on it. The door, hood, and fender were beyond repair, but I had most of the pieces around, and after a trip to Scott Automotive, I had what I needed. The inner fender was hammered back into shape as it wasn't that bad to begin with.

So, it has gone off to the body shop for paint. Sadly, it will not be ready in time for Charlotte, but probably around the first of May. It was yellow origianally, and then painted dark green. She decided on a stock 1979 "Slate Gray" and will have a white top. Stripes and IH logo stickers will be provided from Scoutco.

First will be ac, then she is going to drive it all summer topless (the truck NOT Donna ).
Then later this year, we will put an carpet kit in it. The weatherstripping is in great shape, so no drama there.

JJ
