Default 77 terra woes

I am having a great deal of difficulty getting my 77 terra to run and stay running. I have replaced the fuel pump, installed a pertronix ignition module to replace the gold box, added pertronix wires and coil, and had the 2210 carb reworked by Gauranteed Carburetor (most recent mod). When I first installed the carb, the engine fired and ran sort of ok. I know the distributor need to be turned to get it to run better but not I can't hardly get the thing to start let alone run. It acts like it is not getting fuel but I disconnect the line, crank the engine, and fuel sqirts out. Long story short, anyone got any suggestions?

Have you checked the fuel pressure and do you have a fuel filter. I had a similar problem with a pickup I was working on and had low fuel pressure and tons of sediment in the tank. I'd go to your favorite autoparts store and start by picking up one of the glass in line fuel filters so you can see if there is sediment in your fuel. You should be able to get and in line fuel pressure gauge as well.

You replaced all the plug wires. Did you verify that they are routed in accordance with the cylinder firing order? It is very easy to miss-route one or more wires, and you can't just assume that Johnny PO had the previous set routed correctly, in case you replaced them one at a time.

Just because the carb as been rebuilt doesn't mean that the carb is GOOD? Sounds like a carb problem to me and from my experience.

i would lean torwards a timing/ignition issues.

But
did you drain the old fuel out before installing the new carb?

Where are you in Texas? maybe one (or more)of the local Binder Brothers could lend a hand

Thanks to all for your assistance/suggestions. Let me try to answer each question.

1. I have checked and rechecked the plug wires and am fairly certain they are correct...emphasis on fairly. This is assuming that the #8 tower on the cap is slightly left of center when beiwing from the font of the vehicle.
2. I have not checked the fuel pressure but have a test gauge on the way to test that as well as the vacuum. With that said, I am getting some confusing informatin about where to connect the dizzy vacuum advance hose. Currently, it is connected dirtectly below the fuel inlet on the carb base.
3. I did install a new fuel filter but I did not drain out the fuel tank since I had to replace the hose that runs from the filler neck to the tank after all of the fuel drained out from a rotted hose.
4. As for location, I am close to Del Rio. When I ask a "mechanic" questions regarding the Scout, I get the 'deet in the headlights' reaction.
5. I agree that just because a carb is "rebuilt" does not mean that it problem-free. After reading some other forums, it seems that the Holley 2210 is problematic at best.

did this scout sit for a while or was it a running scout before all this started? from what I read it sounds like you changed a lot of things right away which could have created some problems along the way. If it was mine I would set the timing mark at TDC and see where the rotor was pointing in the distributor. then run your wires off of that. once that is done you would be close enough for the timing for it to fire up and you could address any fuel issues at this point. I always pull the line off the carb and stick it in a 20 ounce pop bottle and crank it over , if you fill half the bottle in 3 to 5 seconds its a good guess the fuel pump is putting out enough to supply the carb. I would start with this as you installed the petronix. could just be a simple fine tuning issue you got going on.

Got my vacuum/fuel pressure test gauge in. Connected to fuel line and am getting good fuel pressure. However, when I checked for vacuum at the 3 nipples available on the carb base plate, I get no vacuum at all on any of them. Any suggestions?

Check "freeze" plugs under the intake. Might have a hole in one.
