Default Ethanol

Gassed the Scout up about a week and a half ago and it ran like crap after that. I wasn't really sure what the problem was. Today on the way home from work I stopped at the same station for a drink and they had a sign on the door saying they had gotten a load of 15% ethanol gas and if you bought the gas for a lawn mower bring it back but it won't hurt automobiles. I told the clerk my truck was running horrible and he just looked at me. So much for buying gas there any more. Alcohol has done nothing but jack up the price of corn and screw up gas!!!

Default Re: Ethanol

When the government and green weenies first starting pushing ethanol, they justified it by saying it would lower our dependence on fossil fuel.

How could anyone fall for that!

When you run E10 gas, your MPG DROPS at least 10% so how are we saving any fossil fuel, TELL ME THAT! You got to burn more gas to go the same distance.

Then there is the diesel to plow and harvest the crops

Then there is the fossil oil or fossil Natural gas to heat the mash and distill the alcohol.

Then there is the large amount of pure clean fresh water to make E10.

Then there is the stealing food from poor people to fuel our cars, driving up the cost of food worldwide.

Then there is cattle competing with corn, so beef cattle it costs a lot more to raise. That one is somewhat lessened cause they feed leftovers from ethanol production back to cows.

Then there is the damage it does to many engines.

Then there is the damage it does to emergency fuel supplies, you just cant store the stuff, after 90 days it is degraded.

Then there are the dumb politicians who for years fed billions to the ethanol industry cause it could not compete in the market, it was subsidized and we were prevented from importing cheaper ethanol from Brazil. That has just changed 3 months ago.
By the way, to make 'green energy' compete in the market, you have to jack up the price of cheaper fossil fuels, so it looks like that is what they are doing.

Then there is the fact we shop ethanol over to Europe so they can meet their own 'subsidized green energy' mandated targets. Europe cant make it like we can.

E10 is a feel good green scam which hurts the environment and people fall for it and now the ball is rolling and it is hard to stop this massive government program. EPA is MANDATING ever increasing amounts into the fuel supply for our country.

Out here the pumps are labeled 15% Ethanol and I avoid them like the plague for that reason.

If somebody truly laid out all the facts for the American public to view and then we held a national referendum on mixing ethanol into gasoline, I think we could get rid of it. Congress has its greasy fingers in the lobbyists money supply, so you cant trust them to do the right thing.

Also, expect it to get worse as the EPA push is becoming reality:

Don't you just love tree huggers? I wouldn't be surprised if one day old vehicles are against the law to drive. Little by little our rights and freedoms are being taken away.

Non ethanol fuel is getting harder and harder to get in TN as the terminals are having to inventory multiple blends to appease the counties that require emissions testing. In Nashville you have 7.8 and 9.0 fuel and now they have to inventory it in E10 and pure 87 Most terminals aren't wanting or willing to do it.

There is a way to make pure 87 as long as they don't make 93 octane E10. The problem is the price spread becomes more than most people will pay.

I've heard it said that in terms of energy, it takes 2 gallons of gas to make 1 gallon of ethanol. That is a waste of energy no matter how you look at it.
