Default Install questions

Bill on the HFI TBI kit. Whats the white wire on the distbutor output with a ring terminal? Is it the tach pickup? If not were do I connect my tach.

Also the TBI coil is male output (large supply to dist.) and cap I bought is all female. Was going to get a TBI coil wire and see if I can make something work. Any better options?

Last one the A/C on input can this just be picked up +12v off the wire going to the compressor clutch or is that ro much power for the ECM?

Thanks
-Scott

Scott,
It your referring to the distributor wiring itself, with the duraspark conversion there are 3 wires.
2 go to the GM connector to the P and N pins on the ignition module. The third i put a terminal on to go to the bottom of a mounting screw on the ignition module for a ground.

Using the Holley cap and the HEI coil, I have used a plug wire or you can hit the parts store and they have an assortment of individual coil and plug wires on a rack in the back, just match the ends and the length needed.

The AC wire normally ties into the compressor clutch wire and senses the 12V that energizes the clutch.
So you can tie it to any 12V source like a dash switch to give a raise idle for anything like OBA or OBW or a fast idle for rock crawling.

Perfect you confirmed what I was thinking on all the questions.

Where is the best place to hook a tac into? I got one now and its hooked into the stock coil.

Also good news I have a large plug next to the A/C lines going into the cab. Bad news is the D-series trucks have little to no room under the dash. And the glove box is tiny!!! Looks like I will mount the ECM behind the glove box or might have to remove it!

If you have the GM goil connectors then there is a white wire next to the large pink that is for the tach.

In my d series i mounted the ECM behind and above the glove box.
I just open it and release the clips and let it fall forward. Then my ECM is stright up under the dash pad. Some industrial velcro and it stays in place. I put the relays and ESC on the firewall with velcro.
personally I felt there was a lot of room in there compared to my scout with AC.

But my D series doesn't have AC!! So that helps.

OK guys it took about 6hrs to install most things. Not bad given I took breaks due to my 2yr!

Also had to move couple sensors as I had things in there places. But also have enough room under my dash for the ECM. I had a extra hole next to the A/C lines and fit most the wire through. I will have to unpin the OBD port and put it through a different hole. Also had trouble stabbing the dis. I am use to Distbutorless motors...

But my biggest F-up was i ordered a spread bore adapter and I have a squarebore! Well heck I looked at it and it looked like a spread bore, but in my defense this is only the second automobile I have ever owned that has a carb. So looks like it will be next week before I fire it up.

One thing to note. I ordered the kit from Hamilton Fuel injection. Guys this is well high quality top notch work. Everything is zip tired and loomed. Heck even the zipties are correctly cut and don't cut you!! Things are labeled well.

Well worth the money!!!

Check them/him out if you want TBI. Its all included and ready to bolt on. Had I not missed up what I had it would be running in around 6hrs!!!

Thanks for the kind words.
I actually made some adjustments to the production harness since you got yours.
They should be easier to connect now.
1-12v to the old coil 12v + wire.
1- 12V to the starter post
1- start signal to the small starter post
1 ground connection for the back of the head.

The rest just plugs in to the sensors and ECM.

The SES is now prewired so no more chasing down another 12v lead. Sorry it's not on yours.

I'm always open to feedback on how to make them better and there have been many small changes since the first one.

Yeah I didn't noctice the 12v crank signal on mine. To I need it? Can I add it?

Or is it not worth it?

That's no problem.

Heck I am thinking about just quit being lazy make my own adapter and put it in the center. Then add a TBI spacer setup.

I had a .25 piece of AL thats big enough, just need to find it.

The start wire isn't needed just something I added back in since the 12V was going to the starter anyway.

1/4 alum is going to be pretty thin to get enough threads to grab.
I will use 1/4 steel but I go 3/8-1/2 on alum to get more threads.
I normally go fine thread on the threads also.

There are diagrams in the FAQs for most adapter patterns.

I have some 1/4'' steel.

And though about the threads. Might set it up to 1/2 AL and Tig it to a 1'' spacer.

But really need to get this finished as I have a car show the 14th to go to.
