Default Muffler Shop cant do downipes?

I'll admit I haven't been wrenching on cars as much as I did pre internet, but today I nearly lost faith in mankind.

Took the huth bending cards for my scout II to Midas and they said that they can't read them. Don't know how!
Also that even if the could, they would reuse my flanges cause they don't have the fixtures for that!

So a muffler shop can do a little welding and swap mail order pipes as well as me? That's all they do?

Ugh

You got "Midasized."

Find an independent shop.

I went there once on a weekend to see if I could just get one piece of 2.5" pipe bent at a 45 degree angle. They said "our pipe bending guy isnt here." Thought I'd give them a chance with a simple thing, but that's the last time I even bother trying...

Meineke wasn't much better - they were a few doors down. They said that no one should bother with Huth cards. We have a custom guy that can do em real gud.

After the pipes I have (too big on the driver's flange) and rubbing the frame in front of the transfer case, flattened to clear the transfer case and a bad weld at the muffler, I will go a little further to find a small shop.

Anyone in Austin have a recommendation? I know that there was a good place in Round Rock, TX years ago.

I stopped by a local shop and handed them the exhaust donut, and they quickly made me a replacement flange for the top of the pipe, then slid the clamp ring on, and then flared the end of it so I could take it home, cut the damaged top off the exhaust pipe, slide the replacement on, and weld 'er up.

Used a slick little hydraulic machine to flare the pipe.

M & M both have a long history of saying they can't do it your way, then attempting to upsell you to their way, which is always far more expensive.

You can safely remove that "ear" from the transfer case (shifter cover aka front bearing retainer) It's unused on a Scout II, and you can cut it off with a sawzall, chop-saw, angle grinder, whatever and you won't have to have your exhaust squished into a D to get past it.

Well, since the education system is no longer training people to use their heads and hands this is what we are getting. The "system" looks down on people who get dirty for a living. Problem is that these are the people that built this country!

Midas and the big chain muffler shops typically only want to do bolt-on exhaust systems which are easier and faster for them. I had a smaller shop do my down-spouts which probably isn't legal, not sure.
