To me, the body is what makes it a Scout. If it retains enough of the original shape to look Scout-ish, it is a Scout. Park mine with the LT1, Robert's LS1 Scout, your 345'd one, and Ernie Bisio's "new" Nissan diesel one all in a row in a parking lot...which one is the Scout? All of them!
and one with a 6.9 in it... still a scout...

Adding that 18" in wheelbase makes it NOT a Scout.

Show me a piece of literature that says it is a "Scout II Terra". I have seriously never seen one.

6.9 now that's cool. Do you have pics posted anywhere? What all did you have to do to bolt up to trannie and what did you do to the front end to handle the extra weight? I bet it'll pull a dead man out of his grave. Oh yeah, 18" longer on a Terra means its a bigger scout.

Oh puhlese people!

"Whats in a name, that which we call a rose by any other name by any other name would smell as sweet"!

As said in part earlier, "its a state of mind". I tend closer to reflect more of the purist mindset, but I will always appreciate anyone's effort that keeps their scout going. So if in your heart its a scout and you proudly call out the scout name while wheeling your fuel celled, CSB, caged rock crawler then I will salute you as a scout owner too. Kind of simple, really.

Every person I know personally that owns a jeep of any type older than 1990 has pretty much dropped in an SBC. When it drives up, people say sweet jeep, pop the hood, they say sweet motor in your sweet jeep. Its all a mindset, and pretty much the "looks." If you want to get technical, a jeep with an SBC, most people call it an Jeep with an SBC, not a chevy with an SBC and a jeep body. If you see a scout 80 and it has been placed on a scout II frame then it is a scout 80 on a Scout II frame. pretty straight forward.

With that said, I bought a Scout because i wanted a challenge to work on. Mainly the idea that my scout was fairly built and not just bought and bolted on. something that was different than anything anyone else had (everyone has a jeep or Bronco but only a few have a scout), They just look so dang cool partly because they are so different from the jeeps that all my buddies own. When I am finished with mine, I'll just continue to pull them out of the mud, and passing them on the trail. Oh and getting all the chicks at the mall. Mainly it is unique itself and unique to me.

Therefore just go buy a scout already! use that money you save over buying a Bronco and make it a killer rig.

And one last thing. Scout probably has one of the most tight knit communities of any type of truck I have ever experienced. That being because it is a challenge to own a scout compared to say a jeep, a ford or a chevy. All they have to do is go to a parts store and the guy will hand them the exact thing they need. Everyone and their dog has one. As for Scout owners, everything comes with a struggle. You go to the parts store and they you would think that you were speaking an unknown language to the guy there. Because there was a demand for information and help from other knowledgable scouters, the community has become so extremely tight knit and supportive of everyone. Some would give an arm, a leg, or a hoola girl to see another persons IH get on the road.
