Default "Too Tall" the Travelall

To start this thread...... I first want to thank all of the members who have contributed to this and other websites . The knowledge contained within these threads are what have made my project progress as it has.

Well, here is where it all began:

I bought this 1967 Travelall back in 2005, the rust was minimal and best of all the truck was nearly complete, glass and all.

And my favorite part....the bar doors

Looks good,
The pictures are a little big but I went on to your gallery and saw it. I love the C series travelall's.

Whoa, those pictures were a little big. Let's try this again.

Here are a few more:

The engine

The drivers floor

And the stripped downed dash

I originally wanted to just clean up the truck and re-wire it just to get it on the road. However, as I removed more and more of the old stuff my imagination got the better of me and this project quickly became a frame-off reconditioning.

So I stripped the truck, built some saw horses and separated the body from the frame

It was a little touch and go as I tried to clear the frame and the trusses of the garage

With the help of a friend and some high-lift jacks we finally got it set onto the four saw horses.
If you closely you can see the rebuilt 304 patiently waiting.

I agree, the "Barn Doors" are awesome!
Will look forward to following your progress.

Welcome to the sexy world of the Round Body Travelall! Been there, done that, and still doing it... Will be watching (subscribed ). Might even be using your photo of the under dash routing for when I get to the point of reinstalling it all. I think I forgot photos of that .

Look forward to seeing your progress. Great project and the best looking body style Travelall IH ever built! IMHO of course...

For those following this thread the name "Too Tall" came from my wife. When I was scouting out the possible purchase of the Travelall, I invited her along. When she first saw the truck said that it was just too tall. So the name stuck.

But anyhow, enough with the trip down memory lane and on with the build:

So after about 12 months of sand blasting EVERYTHING with what amounted to a pencil eraser, I coated the frame with a North Star epoxy chassis coating which sprayed well and is extremely tough.

I then sprayed 2 coates of self-etching primer, wet sanded, and then coated with 3 coats of dark green single stage paint and 3 coats of clear with plenty of wet sanding in between.

And the result is.........

and

and again with a good friend and some high lift jacks

and finally a year later, the TWO are again ONE

I also coated the floor board and undercarriage with the UPOL Raptor Truck bed coating

But my goodness what to do about those Scout Dana 44's and rusty old wheels

That is a beautiful shade of green I don't think those are Scout D44's though, it looks like a D60 rear and should be a D44 front. It looks like it has the big 6 bolt pattern, so unless you swap to chevy axles, keep those wagon wheel rims, blast and maybe powdercoat. I had big 6 split rims on D series that had C series 3/4 ton axles.
