Why wouldn't you go with a crossover drag link with that steering gearbox installation?
Anything is possible, but this build is designed to use off-the-shelf GM steering parts,to keep cost to a minimum, and for ready availability down the road.I think I paid about 30 bucks for the complete new drag link from rock auto.

I found a drag link on Ebay that is a GM part and perfect length for a cross-over connection. $15+$8 shipping.

sounds good.I take it you will try and rotate the pitman arm by 90' to go with a crossover drag link?Or are you going to use a 2wd GM box? What front axle are you using? Are you going with a high-steer setup,or using a different tie rod to connect the crossover steering?

Well, I have been dinking around with this and not getting anything done. I finally found the correct steering gearbox after letting two good ones get away. I ended up buying a fully rebuilt unit that cost three times what I'd thought were too expensive used ones.

I am not going top steering because this is an old Dana 44 with the rectangular four bolt pattern on the knuckle bearing cap(closed knuckle). I might be able to fabricate something, but I will just tie the drag link to the original steering rod. I have done this before by welding a boss onto the linkage and reaming it to fit the rod end on the drag link. The only draw back on my drag link is that it is the style that is not adjustable the the rod ends are permanent type. Can't be replaced and I don't think they have zirks for replenishing the grease. Gear box gets here tomorrow. Also the fittings for the pump lines are all flair type, making the pump and lines compatible.

The old lines that came with the pump show no cracks when I flex them. I may have to install new, but these look good enough to see it everything works when the installation is finished.

Great Job!
It's not easy to make all the parts fit nice and tight like a jig saw puzzle. You did great!

Nice build! It's good to see some pickup builds. That's why I'm here (I've got 2 to do). I'm curious how well that dom 16 stuff works. I was thinking about using por 15 on my frame so half the cost would be nice.

Keep up the good work!

that DOM16 seems real good, dries to a rock hard glossy finish, whereas the POR15 we used was more of a matte finish.
Just finishing up the brake system right now, more pics soon.
