1973 Scout II, no engine, 727 Transmission, Front Dana 30 3.31, Rear Dana 44 3.31. Bought a 304 engine and got it rebuilt Rebuilt the 727 transmission Replaced body mount bushings, leaf spring bushings and put all new bearings, seals and brakes on the Dana 44 The front end was a mess, I replaced the draglink, tie rods, leaf spring bushings, spindle nut, bearings, seals, axle joints and brakes. The scout is now back on the ground and rolling. My question right now is, should I get the rust fixed on the body or should I get it running? If I should get it running, should I replace the original motor mounts or leave what Ive got.

Looking good. Very similar to what I had to do to mine recently.
Personally I would get it running and reliable, then work on the body. Also, yes, replace the engine mounts, one of mine was completely separated and wasn't doing anything. Plus it allowed the engine to move and almost destroyed the fan shroud. Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing more.

I piddled around this weekend removing the surface rust from the rest of the frame. I also took off 30+ years of grease from the steering box and spray painted it all black.
I also spray painted the engine I want to give mad props to everyone that is fixing their own rust. This is one area I know nothing about and I really dont want to start cutting away and be working on it 3 years later. Ive decided to take the easy way out on this and get a body shop to do it so I can get this thing running by summer. The guy that had it before me decided to spray the rust black in some areas. So some of the shots are hard to see how bad the rust really is, but I'm sure you get the point. Dropped the scout off at the body shop today. Plan to work on the inner fenders, engine and transfer case while its there.

Glad to see it found a good home and getting the TLC it deserves. That's my house in the first pic, just outside the "Scout Lair" and my '77 SII. Check my photo gallery and you'll see a couple more. I sold it to the Air Force guys you brought it from. The original Motor from that '73 is the one in my avitar. When I stripped the original "Shag" carpet out of it and saw my driveway through those front floors it broke my heart. The engine has five bent pushrods as well. Long story short, I decided to finish the motor for my '77 SII and sell the balance as is as I didn't have the time or money for both projects. I'll see if I can find a link for you to chase back a little history of her time with me. Oh yeah, I'm the reason it smelled like moth balls, had a spider and snake problem where I stored it just before selling it. Best of luck!
Here's when I brought it home; http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...highlight=waco Maybe this will explain why I kept the motor; http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...=bent+pushrods

Glad you found my thread. Ive been having a lot of fun with this. Thanks for your emails last summer, it got me going in the right direction. Looks like you've put a lot of time in that engine, if you ever want to get rid of it let me know

No problem Vince, but the 304 is now nestled securely in the '77. You can see it on the "back to my '77" thread in GCB. Keep up the good work!
