So I started the day by cleaning up the garage a bit. Then I pulled the trans and case out. Then I spent the next 4 1/2 hrs. Starting to clean the engine compartment. The bedliner I'm going to use is applied to roughed up paint. The base paint here was in good shape. But it was covered in layers of different paints, undercoating, grease and road grime! There is also some light surface rust in a few spots. So to prevent any chance of contamination to the new bedliner coat. I am going to strip the metal bare! This will also give me the chance to weld up the many unneeded holes in the firewall.
Once it's all nice and clean I'll put down a solid coat of primer. Then spray the bedliner on that. To all who wonder why not spray the liner on bare metal?
The liner is designed to make a chemical bond to existing paint. So I would lay down fine on bare metal. But it would not last long since it is not able to make a mechanical bond.
Lesson for the day: when it comes to paint. Always read the instructions and compatiblity warnings. Not all paint is created the same. And different paints need different prep work!
Ok here's some pics! Not done but a start!

HOLY ****!!! Okay, I think I got it out of my system...
As suggested by a couple "Freedom followers," future comments about how awesome Jared is and the job he is doing, will be reserved for the project's end state.

Jared,
I would spend a little time inspecting the spot weld on the front sheet metal.
The 800 I just did had about 6 cracks around spot welds between the core support and the inner fenders.

I hear that! Thanks for the tip. I have only seen one small crack so far.
But there are a few areas where the panels didn't line up perfect and left a small gap/ hole at the intersection. These areas were filled with seam sealer. And there are several of the firewall holes that will get patched. So I'll haver he welder out for sure either way.

So I didn't get anything done on the scout today. I had other pressing things. But I thought I would post up some pics of the old 304 we stole a head off of.

Well I'm falling behind already!
This past week has been crazy! I think I must have walked out in the shop a dozen times only to be pulled away to do something else. I hope to get the interior striped and everything primed in the next few days. But already it's not looking good. Today my wife worked a half day then drug me around shopping. Tomorrow she is making my go to rodeo.
