Default Re: Replacement carb question

Ok picked up a rebuild kit today, Gonna rebuild the TQ but still looking for another carb to use while I rebuild the TQ. Gonna take my time with the rebuild to make sure everything is cleaned and working properly. So figure between work and the kids will take a few weekends. So did a search for a quadrajet and found these. Any recommendations?

I still suggest the rebuilder on ebay. he is about $100 cheaper than these, and I know he knows how to set it up for a scout 345, since thats what he did for me.

It's those who don't like loud-fast-talkers and those who don't like salesman that just ignore the BS... but it's those who know the truth, that stop the spread of diseased minds. Which is the only reason why I am commenting further, to stop the "insert BS here" command before it enters another brain.

---I'm not going to go over the whole debate about cfm again. If you know how to read, it's in the books as well as can be found here. A carb that is too large or small will* effect the performance as well as economy and if you don't think so, step out of the Bull Shop you hang around in and contact a manufacturer. If there was no difference in carburetor cfm and you could use any carb on any engine, there would be one size carb, one-size-fits-all-universal-BS and there would be no manufacturer stating that you have to "select the right" carb. Can't get anything more than 16mpg... there be somethin' wrong wid yer lernens.
Memo to Thomas: Impersonation of a forum moderator does not make you one. Once again, you have overstepped your bounds by an enormous margin. By now, even the most casual and infrequent lurker of this forum has picked up on how much of a charge you clearly receive from unleashing one unwarranted and baseless attack on me after the next. Whadda ya think this is? Your own personal Irate 4x4? It appears decorum is as foreign a concept to you as humility.
I made no mention or inference as to "one size fitting all". That's entirely the product of your overactive and overdeveloped imagination. What is painfully obvious to anyone who has ever read so much as one Thomas post, is that the so called "truth" is only the truth if Thomas sees fit to anoint it as such. No other purported truth, regardless of the evidence in support will ever pass muster, if it is not found to be in accordance with the Almighty Book of Thomas.

This is only partially true. While many of the GM QJets do have the straight ahead fuel inlet which would be problematic on an IH as you point out, Chevrolet versions of the QJ have the side-facing fuel inlet allowing proper clearance of the upper water neck.

Joker, once you get it all worked out, please follow up and let us know how it goes. You'll have a rebuilt TQ and a rebuilt QJ being used back to back on the same vehicle. I'd love to hear which you like better and why.

get another thermo bog, to slap on there. nothing would need changing at all.
then youll have a spare carb and parts should you need it . .
switching to an old rebuilt Q jet you might as well toss the thermo bog. and stick with the qjet.
