Default Nice travelall find

I bought 3 travelalls this morning. They all have running 392's in them. One is a 71 the other 2 are 72 and 73. The 2 out in the woods are parts rigs and mostly complete. The 71 is missing the fenders but I think they are up front in a barn. The 73 in a barn is a score. Was pretty shocked by the condition. The only rust was on the front fenders and there is a set in it to replace it. No rust on the rockers or rear quarters, roof above the windshield, very solid.. It was parked in the barn around 1978 or 1979 they think. The paint is thin on the rear quarters the PO sprayed red primer on them. One of them has perfect seats..the 71 with the fold down center console. The 73, in the barn is 4WD stick, the others are 2wd auto's. Now the headache is getting to them and hauling them home they are about a 100 miles north of me...Hope to do it in 1 trip using the travelall, 74 pickup and the terra..I just need to find drivers and a 3rd car hauler. The 71 will get parted immediately and sent to the crusher..all wheels are locked up on it, but runs and FULL of misc parts from who knows what. apperently there were a couple more out in the woods but they are gone now. I will post more pics when I get them home..took my camera but battery was about dead so only got a few pics...

And once again Darren pulls a rabbit out of his hat.....good score, if the grille on the 71 is as good as it looks to be, those are hard to find. The snow doesn't help getting them home any either, summer is a lot nicer time to deal with that!

exept for the swamp getting out, need to have the ice to get out and hope that you don't fall through I guess the crossing is only 3ft deep under the ice so should't be to bad if you fell through..

When are you thinking you're going to go get them? Might be able to help you out if you need a hand...

I look hard for them and pursue anything I hear about. I keep a record of every rig I have had, these 3 will put me at 52 rigs I have parted out additionally I have had 20 decent ones that are drivers/restored...about 30 miles north of those I have 2 800's to look at still and a scout2. For some crazy reason the last few months I bet I get 5 or 6 people calling for parts a week. I have gone through alot of parts since this fall...The other thing is it does take alot of time and alot of effort to get a rig then get it parted and it is getting more costly to do all the time....I have passed up probably 1/2 a dozen rigs because the distance, the cost of fuel. The 73 I am not sure what I will do with it, it probably will just get resold. Here are 2 other trucks that are in the same area as the travelall that can be bought very reasonable..I just am not into the c series ..actually I know where there are 2 more c series trucks besides the 2 posted below. If anyone is interested in these 2 let me know..If they are not sold in the next couple of weeks they are going to the crusher...The 1st one is 4wd, the second one has a good fender in the back for the one missing on the front.

I looked at these Travelalls. They are about 20 miles from my home. I made an offer on the '73 probably a year ago just to save it from the crusher. I'm not fixing any D-series so I
didn't pursue it further. I'm glad you got got them as the one is definitely worth fixing up and there are a lot of good parts on the others! Greg

Well not sure where to start! Hit the road at 8:15 this morning. It was a 11 hr ordeal today picking up the travelalls. Roads were horrible snow ice & wind..Wind chill 4 degrees..The first one the 71 in the woods has a broken frame. It was froze down flat tires..no big deal on the tires I brought my air tank..Went to air up the tire for got the end of the hose. The guy had a tractor, pushing on it and my pulling with the t-all, snapped by jerk strap..so hooked up a chain after about a hour we got it out and hooked the trailer back up and got in position. Hooked the winch on got about 2 ft on the trailer, battery for the winch dead I charged it all night???So pulled my battery out of the t-all made it about 4 feet after pulling it with the tractor side to side since one of the tires was about at a 45 degree angle from the broke frame and wouldn't travel straight.then the wires on the winch control started smoking and caught on fire.. DEAD IN tthe water now..broke out the come alongs.. what do you know after about a ft using 2 a snap one broke. Un hooked the trailer..blocked wheels pulled it on with the my t-all pushed with the tractor, ramps flipped up caught on the bottom of the t-all..had to drag it back and start over..finally loaded..after several hours. We used my dads friends truck for the 2nd rig..salt on the roads, I was sick about having the t-all out..well what do you know...started in along side the swamp the 4wd stopped working in that truck... I knew I should have brought the 74 200 4wd. Un hooked, pulled it out with the tractor...unhooked the t-all hooked it to the other trailer started back. The 73 only has one flat tire.. got my jack out to change the tire..no luck jack wouldnt lift it..low fluid So the guy went and got his, got it jacked up pulled the tire off, the spare that was in the back was full of air..went to put it on..wrong fricken bolt pattern so I tookt he one out of my tall.. unhooked the trailer pulled it on with the t-all pushing with the tractor..trailer wanted to skid.. chained the back of a trailer to a tree and continued on.. Then the fender caught on the side of the trailer bending it up..so I pulled it up out of the way since it was rusted anyeways...finally after being there over 5 hrs got it loaded alot of the time was hooking and unhooking trying to slide them straight while we were pulling them onto the trailers .... pulled it out on the road unhooked. Had to hook up the other trailer to get it out since no 4wd in the other truck. Pulled the truck out on the road and hooked it back up headed home..After driving all the way up there my travelall running for over 5 hrs at the guys place got 1 mile from the gas station ran out of gas luckily I had a can with a couple of gallons.. All that for some old IH iron!Got home to unload, forklift got stuck Got the tractor out pulled the fork lift out...messed around and got them unloaded by 7 I was on my way home from my folks where I dropped them off..A long day...start tearing into them tomorrow since some of the parts are already spoken for...will post more pics...but snapped one today...

Sounds like the road trip from h&ll! I'm glad I don't live closer to you, or I'd probably got to experience that too. Seems like once things start to go south, they go WAY south, and always when it's raining/snowing/ wind chill of 30 below, never when it's nice and sunny and 65.

You need to update these guys on the fate of the first Travelall you picked up from up there......I couldn't believe it when you told me about it.
