Default Last time I was getting emissions done the State worker freaked out

Because he saw SCREWS, NOT rivets holding the VIN plate. He also could not understand why no plate existed on the dash, and was having a hard time finding the hood release at the front of the grill...

Idiots, all of them. Everytime I go in, for years running, I hear the same thing - nice BRONCO. No, its a Scout... blank look... nice BRONCO, and on and on that scenario unfolds...

This last time, the worst part was telling the worker that I do not do a live test (getting the vehicle up to 55 on rollers) since it is not a metered system, I told him the rig is supposed to be tested at IDLE ONLY - been this way for years... well after looking for cat convertors with a mirror under the rig (***?), checking the gas cap (ONCE AGAIN ***? - its a 40 year old vehicle!!), he tells me to take it up to speed... well I FAIL - no news to me. I argue, and then pull into the front to talk to management. They look it up in their books, and wouldn't you know it, I was right all along. Then they have the balls to tell me to get back in line - uh, I just waited an hour... finally, after going back and forth, I am able to back into the bay, after a car just got tested, and they retest me at IDLE. I pass, all is well for another year...

Its not all sunshine and oranges in California when it comes to emissions tests! I also get the same story from the inspectors about how they remember having one growing up. Suddenly everyones had a Scout but yet nobody knows one when they see it.

Quick...name the top five rackets in U.S. history. Regardless of what the other four may be and in what order, vehicle smog testing must, simply must always rank somewhere in the top five.

The DMV here had a conniption fit when I tried to title/register my Scout after restoration when they saw that the VIN plate was screwed on and not riveted. It was an enjoyable experience (insert sarcasm)..

We have private inspections but had the same questions about the screws once so I put rivits on it just to avoid it again. It's not like they can't be drilled out and redone just as easy as taking screws off but it made life a little easier..
