(the ebay seller came highly recommended and said he has built carb kits for scouts many times before..?) It's a 1bbl to 2 bbl adapter that sits kind of high (almost too high for the hood to close properly), but apart from that the bolts from the manifold hit the adapter where it flares out. The only way it would fit is to mount the carb differently and linkage would be next to impossible to fabricate. Is there a different adapter I can get or should I just rebuild my holley and call it a day? I'm pretty frustrated at this point. |

You'll need a 2bbl manifold to realize any thing over the 1bbl, and the adapter to install the Motorcrap carb is only 1/2" thick.

it has the motorcraft 2bbl adapter, then another adapter for 2bbl to 1bbl to mate up to the intake manifold.
The motorcraft adapter is only about 1 1/2 inches thick. The adapter for 2 bbl to 1 bbl is a good 4 inches high. Added to that the 2bbl to 1bbl adapter doesnt sit at all because the bolts from the manifold are too long so it hits against the sides. |

Here's the adapter the seller sent me and the red ring is where the stock intake manifold bolts hit the side

I used a motorcraft carb on a cast iron 2bbl intake manifold. The transdapt brand adapter I used was less than one inch thick. The base gasket was maybe another 1/2 inch. Anyways there was not much clearance between the hood and 10" aftermarket air filter sitting atop the carb. If your vehicle is a Scout II like mine the setup you described may well interfere with the hood.
If I were you I would try to get an early 2bbl intake that mates up with your stock exhaust manifold. That way you will have a good source for the hot air choke most motorcrafts are equipped with. You should pay little or nothing for the manifold from a private party. BTW I was very pleased with my motorcraft carb. Hope you have a similar result. |

I didnt want to get a different manifold, but I'm afraid that it may be my only option if I want this to work.
I'm already a few hundred in this kit and if it means i need a manifold to make this work, I might be better off rebuilding the holley and calling it a day |

Would this work? Summit Racing #2041 Large 1-Barrel to Holley 2-Barrel (same pattern as Motorcraft) 1 1/2 inch thick

Are you using a bolt or a stud and nut?
Can you take a pick of the actual bolt and where it's hitting? If using a bolt, can you swap to a stud? I think with your stack of adapters and running a 2 barrel on a 1 barrel manifold, your not really going to see much improvement. Like using a 2 to 4 barrel adapter on a V8. If you had a bad carb then maybe a replacement of the same style would be a better choice. I know it's not waht you asked but it looks like your just creating more problems trying to solve the original one. Quote:

I think I'm going with your advice Bill. The motorcraft seems too problematic to install on a 1bbl intake manifold. I wasnt looking for amazing performance just a little more reliability.
