Default M5H6 Oil Filter Question

Can anyone tell me what oil filter to use in a M5H6... Mine has the original military filter housing on it...

Well depending on the motor and filter type the trucks all use Napa filters.

M-1-4 and M-2-4 Napa 1011

M-3H-4 and M-3L-4 Napa 1033

Some Navy M-5H-6 trucks have the base mount Navy Standard filter with Wix 1501
Almost all are base mount Military Standard Senior filters and use 1 or 2 Napa 1500
I used to put two senior filters in my M-5H-6(before removing one base and blocking off the mounting holes) it has a IHC halftrack motor with two AC-52 base mount housings and uses the Napa 1500.
Your truck will use the same Napa 1500 its the same as Big "A" 603 and Hastings 106.

Hope that helps

You are very welcome. Post some pictures of your truck when you can.
Does it have a bed?

Here it is Dave... Just set the engine back in after freshening it up a little... Had a rd372 with a very badly worn crank and spun rod brgs and very worn sleeves in it when I first got it.... I found this rd450 that needed minimal work just rings/gaskets/valve job basically to get it in decent condition.. Also changing it to 12 volt.. This truck has also had a kb8 cab installed at some point... and also no bed on it now...sucks, but I will figure something out for a bed... I do realise this truck is not very original..but to me it is still cool, just getting it functioning again in a way that fits my budget.. Just relaxing for me after spending most of my time working on the high tech stuff at my main job at the Ford garage, haha!

Nice truck Rylan I like the RD450 and have one in mine. What did you do for the front motor mount? I used a home made chunk of rubber that I cut to fit.
I have a Holley 2 barrel F2G like on the International mulitfuel M54 trucks used in Vietnam in the 60's and 70's.
Almost everything I need I can find at Napa.
Last week I put a Delco alternator and Regullator on my truck I had sitting around. I have saved all my 6volt positive ground stuff but was getting tired of the generator not charging my battery unless at crusing speed and the dim headlights. Now I can add a 12 volt fuel pump. In the last 4 years I have eatten up 2 diaphrams in the stock pump due to the alcohol and additives added to wash the cylinders.
I have collected all the parts to rebuild an original RD361 and have all that put away.
The 361 costs about 2k+ in parts to rebuild. You can get the tractor guys to custom make sleeves for anything IHC mine I had made standard size for the 361 were $475. Problem is you have to go to a Case dealership for some of the stuff and parts are spendy there.
I just bought a NOS cam, pistons and moly rings for the 361 and it set me back more than I want to say. Same dealer had an NOS RD450 head rebuilt by IHC in 1975 and sold it to me for $375 with a coper gasket ready to bolt on. I also bought a NOS exhaust manifold and intake for the RD450 and have installed that as well.
The RD450 was used in School buses and other trucks and equipment like the Loadstar and belly lifters into the 1990's so I go to city auctions and buy parts as well.
I run a petronix ignitor and a flame thrower 6 cylinder solid epoxy coil and it starts right up. Once I change out the fuel pump it will be even better.
Don't fret about the originality most of these trucks are yard art and never move under there own power again. Most will sit that way until someone like you gets them on the road or sells them to someone that will.
Back on the road driving is where they belong.
Looks like you are doing a great job so far, keep posting your progress.
Post more pictures when you get time.
And drive it!

Yeah, I'm saving all my original 6v stuff too... I can't bring myself to throw anything out! haha! I am leaving the big regulator on the firewall - looks good there even if it isn't hooked up. Made a new bracket for the delco alternator over the weekend and re-built the distributor and static timed it to the engine along with a new set of plug wires...
I like your idea of going to a downdraft manifold... wish I could find one.. Not as much red diamond stuff around here as there once was..
As for the front mount I just used the one that was on the 372... basically just a flat piece of rubber like the one you made..

You would be surprised whats in the big junk yards. A week ago I found a 74 1700 with a Rockwell T233 Transfer and a T34 5 speed with bevel ghears and sycros. I pulled them both and paid core for them at the gate. Its hit and miss but with scrap values going up again more people are cleaning up. The T34 transmission is just about a bolt in after you change the yoke and adjust some linkage difference's. The plus is down shifting into second with out doing the two step and all you hear is the snick snick of the shift intead of the RRRRRRRRR--UNT normal to the spur gear box. Lots less noise while moving too.
I have a friend in South Dakota and where your at you are surrounded by some of the biggest and oldest farm country there is, Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota probably have some great junk yards.
The closer you get to the river the scrap will be going south and east and not sitting very long.
Out in the boonies there probably is a gold mine of Binders in the side lots and tree lines. Try and find the dual exhaust 2 barrel school bus manifolds.
See two pictures attached one is my truck with a M35 bed (gone now) the other is my trucks RD450 with the Holley and dual exit exhaust. look close for the dual outlets. I am looking for a school bus muffler they are two in and one out and sound like a Sherman tank. But still quieter than wide open which is too loud but sounds awesome all the same.

I will call a couple salvage yards in the morning and see if they might have a manifold/carb setup or maybe know someone who has one.. There are still a few old trucks and stuff setting around the farms in this area... I always keep an eye out for stuff that's cool... most of the IH stuff are the smaller 6cyl engines or 345,392 V-8 loadstar.. I think I will do some more asking around looking for a manifold though.. The local implement dealer had a 1850 loadstar with a red diamond in it... it is gone now - went to the scrapper 2 years ago.. The iron scrappers are way too busy around here...

They are scraping as fast as they can tow the stuff away out here really is upsetting.
