Good points Thomas!

Interesting you mention the "10" subs"... I have plans...

I did a lot of reading on the fumes and such. My nose does not work so well. On the other hand, my girl friend has an excellent nose. So far, no issues. It does have asphalt so, there is a potential. I read the MSDS a while back, on a stereo forum, and didn't see anything that worried me.

I ended up ordering the jute pad from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0024KNKSS
I would be very surprised if it is a true "Jute" material (especially at the price). And it's only 32oz, instead of 40oz. But it's also 1/5 the cost. So it's worth trying.
Figured this is large enough to do the whole vehicle (5'x10' will do the entire bed area). So, instead of spending the "big bucks", starting with this would be a good idea. I doubt it will be salvaged for the new tub.

Yeah, wind noise, is just what it is. The "goal" is to get down to about 65dB. That would be a comfortable interior level for long drives.

Nice looking Scout Casey!

I'm going to call and talk to these guys tomorrow:
http://www.stockinteriors.com/AutoCa...12&ModelId=601

If it is a 1 piece carpet that goes over the tunnel, I'll buy it, and have them add the "Mass Back" on. The entire cab with still get covered with the Peel & Seal, but the carpet should be a big help. Then I'll cover the areas that the carpet doesn't cover with the remaining Jute carpet pad, & the indoor/outdoor carpet I have (like kick panels, under the seats, firewall, etc).

Hey Scott,
I'm probably going to install that same carpet. Will you please take lots of pictures and good notes so I won't make the same mistakes?

With the peel and stick under the carpet, do you think you could still glue the carpet down so it won't slide around? Maybe some spray on adhesive?

Will do. Mistakes in an old rusted tub won't look near as bad as mistakes in nice shiney orange tub.

Due to the "traffic" (read dogs), I think it will take more than adhesive to keep the carpet in the bed in place. I bought some aluminum angle, and flat stock to help with that issue.
I've also ordered up the steel to make a removable bed box", that will cover the whole bed (so that the "floor" will be flat all the way across). As soon as I get the carpet done, I'll go to work on that.
I have two months to get this all tied up...

I used ceramic microspheres on firewall inside and out and inside of tub. Then used ez-cool insulation on the inside and doubled up on the firewall and trans tunnel and the top. Stuck it on with locktite #3 adhesive. I have the acc carpet with jute backing on the front flooring. If all that don't cut it I don't know what I will do.

I've read some excellent reviews on both the ceramic microspheres and the ez-cool insulation. Sounds like you've got a great combo going on.
Should be a very nice ride!

Just ordered the molded carpet. It is a one piece unit that goes over the tunnel. Ordered the 80/20 loop in charcoal grey, with the mass back. to the door cost is $256.90.
She said it will take about 3 business days to get the carpet molded, and ready for shipping. Then about 5 days for shipping.
Will post pictures of the install when it gets here.

Currently getting my rump kicked by the bed carpet install.
My refusal to just glue it all in place, and the patch work / angle iron used to hold this rust bucket together, is making progress a nightmare!

So far I've broken 3 drill bits, ruined a half dozen stainless sheetmetal screws, and used some words I haven't used since my infantry days.
So at the end of the day today, I came up with a new "battle plan"... Extensive use of C4!
Tomorrow should go better.
Here is 4 hours worth of work today.
  • 3/8" jute pad
  • Indoor / outdoor carpet
  • Aluminum flat stock & aluminum angle w/ stainless screws.
This darned well better make tRusti quieter than a Lincoln Towncar... ROFL.

I know that was alot of work, but really does look good Scott. I worked way longer than 4 hours on mine today and have way less to show for it. LOL

looking real nice. The 40oz jute is harder to work around the bends and corners than the 27oz but in the bed I think it was the better choice

If you have access to the battery operated impact drivers they work great for driving screws without stripping the heads
