Default Re: My first Scout .... Living My Dream

One idea I came up with today is I'm putting left over wood from our new wood floors in our house in over the fiber glass floor of my scout or I'll use some left over laminate a friend maybe given me when he's done with the floor at his house either way I think it will look kinda cool some time I'd like to put In wood under the top so it had a woody look on the inside of the full top but I'd like to do the floor first. I was thinking about doing wood in the bed but Id just knar it all up cuz I plan on using my scout for work and I'm sure playing around or hauling my buddies dirt bike in the back up to silver would not go well. But I'll be sure to post pics of the floors when they are done.

Tonight Tim called saying he got shackle material from work and that he'd have the new shackles built for 30$ by Saturday. Originally I wasgonna have to pay a crap ton for material but this is a good run of luck as for the shackles. I hope to pick up the perches and u bolt parts thursday and then Id like to be able to have the axles and and up and test driving by next weekend.

If you have trouble locating spring perches/u-bolts/ubolts plates, check out Ruff Stuff Specialties http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/ it's beefy, fair priced, and you'd be amazed at how much steel Dan can cram in a flat rate box!

I used Ruff Stuff spring hangers, shackles, perches, ubolts and ubolt plates from Ruff Stuff when I did my fool size axle swap.

So I found a ridiculous deal on the color of paint that my truck is for a paint that normally is super expensive it's a close out sale ....... However I found a color I like and am considering spraying myself this summer duplicolor has a color called sublime green pearl .... It's bright and its not a real 1960's color but I'll tell ya it is sharp and extremely tempting. But I am I'm heavy consideration of a repainted this summer to freshen it up.

Axle swap update

Did the swap No changes had to be made to my drive line to accomadate the 44's

only had to do axle shims in the front to correct pinion angle

theres alot of people with alot of opinions on here ...

so far my build has gone nearly bolt in.
no drive shaft length issues nothing

Heres some pictures of my shackles and just some pics from working on getting the bushings out

Check out the comparison photo on the shackles I may round off the corners later but right now im just worried about getting it all put together. U bolts were supposed to be here today but they havent showed up yet ...... Anything Scout ? can you explain why this has yet to happen ? Got u bolt plates that I had made by tim the guy helping me do the build

to adjust the rear pinion angle we just weded in the new axle pads at a different point

How is the caster angle? That's the important angle if you want it to track straight and not wander all over the road.

The top of the knuckle should be tilted back ~5*, if you have long shackles, and a shim for to tilt the pinon angle up, the caster is usually off (tilted too far forward) unless the previous owner already did a "cut and turn" on the knuckles to correct the caster angle.
