Default Gary comes to call AKA three day build

Gary Billings has come to Montana to school me on the baby Scouts. I have a 61 Scout that i bought several years ago and have had on the back burner, so plan is to clean repaint the frame. Install a rebuilt 152, PTO winch, and all new brakes. I do not want to do ANYTHING to the body, there is a very nice patina and no major rust so I really like the look, and the idea of have a very clean frame and running gear with a very weathered body will be sexy. Here are some pictures from day one, bare in mind we did not get started until after lunch. This was my fault I took Gary to my favorite JY, he had to honeymoon with everyone of the Harvesters, we also scored a nice grill for his Metro for 25 bones.

Here Gary is starting to find his way around the shop and is getting comfortable with the equipment. I am amazed what Gary can do with one of these Scout 80s, and a little time. This will be a very quick build and be a great parts runner, I am looking forward to running around my small town in my cool little 61.

The "rust" is only surface rust, so my plans are to wipe the body down with WD40, on occasion and enjoy the sweet patina that you could never have on the east side of this great country.

That 'sweet patina' would soon turn to 'dang rust holes' on my side of the world....you're lucky.

My 65 has the "patina" you show but only on the hood and tops of the doors and rear bed.
When I said I was going to paint it, the members of BABS [Bay Area Binder Society] threatened life and limb if I did so.

The truck sits under cover but not inside in the coastal California mountains with 100+ inches of rain in a normal season so I want to seal it without ******* the "patina".

Next work session, I intend to treat the rusty areas with 'OS-Pho' which is a phosphoric acid treatment from your local ACE hardware store. It will darken the "patina" but stops the rusting.

Can you not just spray some flat sealer or clear and preserve it where it is? That way if you get grease on it, you can wipe it off, but it will preserve the patina.

They do make hot rod paint that "looks" like patina.

I think it will look great the way it is. By the way, nice bear on the wall.
