Default Knife sharpener...

I have had a Lansky for years, and could get a good edge on a knife...but it takes forever! Well, the Cabela's Club Visa card had enough points on it to order one of these the other day, and not have to take a penny out of pocket for it:
Work Sharp knife and tool sharpener

I tell ya what...this thing flat kicks TAIL! I have a Benchmade pocket knife that I bought in the early 90's that I have absolutely abused. The blade is a good 3/8" shorter than it was, the serrations are literally gone without a trace (as in, you can't see where they were at all), and the handle is worn slick on it. I LOVE the knife...but I have been unable to get an edge on it for several years, now. Well, in under 3 minutes with this new sharpener, it is shaving my arm hair coming and going...for real! I have hit several of my blades, a couple for my brother, one for dad (which he has already cut his finger with), and even put a new edge on my old hatchet with it. I had some old scissors at the office that wouldn't "slide" through anything anymore, but now slide through decals, paper, and even corrugated cardboard. I love it!

I've been agitating for a 3000 from this company for a couple of years now for my woodworking tools: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=17398

That sharpener looks sweet though- how do you think it wouold do on plane blades and chissels? Need a square edge to them. Would probably do great on draw knives.

I've used 'scary sharp' to restore some joiner blades and it worked great, but it took forever! (this page is a long-winded version, but entertaining reading: http://www.woodbutcher.net/scary.shtml )

I have one that doesn't need electricity by URL="http://www.warthogsharp.com/product_details_2009.php?ProductID=1"]Warthog Sharp.[/URL] I have the classic model, it looks like they have a newer version as well.

I take it when I head into the field and need to sharpen remotely or while out on a boat. I have a few older knives that I really didn't want to get rid of, but after putting about 5 or 6 minutes with the above sharpener, they were like new. When I first purchased it, the dealer wouldn't let you leave until he showed you how sharp it could get your regular pocket knife & how to properly utilize the sharpener.

He took an observers ol' trusty knife that couldn't cut through paper worth a darn and had it filleting off ink from the newspaper in under 4 minutes. The knife was taking off the ink the page without slicing through the paper and it would easily shave arm hairs in any direction. He did the same with my gerber knife (although it already had a decent edge).

You guys got me too. It really works great and the Master Chef (wife) is happy with the results. I am now trying to sell her on her very own Scout.
