I don't have any helpers today, so I thought I'd get started on the tub removal and see how far I could get. Actually went easier than expected. No bolts broke off, as they all came right off. Amazingly not a lot of rust to deal with. Gotta love the SW.

Man, I can tell you though... You guys up North. How the heck you must struggle with thos stupid phillips head screws. Taking the ones off where the bulhead bolts on. Sheesh! Took every bit I had to get them to budge without stripping the heads. I was using a #4 bit in a ratchet wrench. Couple of times I had to use a C-clamp to keep the bit from slipping. But took about an hour and they all came out.

I know how you all like your dose of pictures, so I took some of the tub hanging in the air.
Best I could come up with. Hoist it up, and roll the chasis out. Set it back down on saw horses. Figure I'll back a trailer up to it, and set it down on the trailer for a while.
Really need to be able to crawl under to pressure wash though, so may have to hang it up somewhere.

Great start Eric! Give us a preview of your plans for your Scout and definitely keep the pics coming! 110 in the shade so stay hydrated, especially when working alone!

Hey Eric, you didnt say if your YJ springs are stock or lifted. I am running the 2.5" lift springs and so is Mocha Mike. Make sure you run the add a leaf. There was a write up a while back about the guys at C4x4 where they used the yj spings with a 2.5" lift and the add a leafs in them. They ran 37" tires on it and a forward shackle.

On my 80 I am running a 2.5 lift spring in the front and I am going to replace the rear with a 4" to level it out. I dont know anyone else who has had to do it this way but I didnt like how long the rear shackles had to be. Maybe my reverse shackle I built was to long?

Mocha mike is running a v-8 I think chevy, I am running a v-8 diesel and the c4x4 guys were running an IH v-8. There was also another guy running an IH v-8 in his 800 with the same springs and add a leaf on Pirate, he ran 35" tires. it seems the 2.5" springs are the way to go when it comes to the YJ spings.

Now that the tub is off, I'm going to look into putting on the SII axles I have.

Part of me wants to use OEM parts b/c it's easy. But I also want to upgrade.
I really would like to get rid of those saddle tanks for sure. I have a SII between the rails tank I will try to fit.
Thanks for looking!

Thanks Fred. Actually, I do have a rotisserie. Not sure I need it on this build though.

Interesting! My springs are stockers, but was thinking they would work fine with 32's. I'm having doubts about a huge lift making the truck hard to drive on the highway.

I didnt want mine turning out as high as it did. If I would have run waggy springs then it would have been higher. If I lower mine then I have to get new wheels and tires. Mine are new and have zero miles on them so its not really an option right now for me.

Planning a wheeling trip down on our ranch labor day weekend. Join us! No costs! So far 4 jeeps going. Plenty of places to stay since we have hunt cabins.

You are moving right along with this. Awesome job!

I'm with you on the OEM parts. The only thing I can add is that, it would be advisable to check into availability of the OEM parts. Few parts stores speak I.H.
If you don't do the shackle flip up front, take a look at how Davis has the "sway bar" plate mounted between the shackles.
I have the same thing on tRusti with 2" longer shackle lift, and springs for a total lift of about 2.5". The sway bar plate works pretty good. There is still *some* body roll, but all in all it handles well.
Keep up the great progress!
