Not a bunch of progress to report. I replaced and wired up the cooling fan controller I fried sunday and I also wired up the idle cold advance solenoid. Now It will idle high to warm it up in the winter months.

I started working on the 4.5" pipe nerf bars / steps. I have both pipes cut down and one of the pipes cut out and part of the 1/8" thick diamond plate tack welded on. I still have a little minor grinding for fitting to do and 4 more pieces of diamond plate to fit before I can weld it to the 3" pipe that will mount it to the frame. Im cutting all of the pipe with a torch since it is so thick and I need practice with my old friend smoke wrench. I will post some pictures when I get one side more complete.

Small update. I got the license plate bracket sanded and painted and hooked up the light for it. A new overflow radiator bottle put in, picked up the new emergency brake cables today and I installed the new to me seat belts for the front seats that I got from the local Ziggy mart.

I only have the horn, windshield wipers and a better exhaust system to make it ready for inspection. I took it out sunday for a little drive and so far so good.

Another small update. I wired up my Off Road Lights and welded new light tabs onto the front bumper and I fixed the horn. So now its exhaust and windshield wipers and it will be ready for inspection. Anyone have any scout 80 windshield wipers that actually work?

My experiment worked. I was able to mount a 1984 chevy blower motor up the stock scout 80 /800 heater box. It blows incredibly hard. I ended up using the mounting plate that mounts the scout blower motor to the box as well as the stock squirrel cage. I had to modify the chevy blower motor mount by cutting it off then drilling two hole into the top of the motor housing and screwing the stock mounting plate to the motor. It really is an easy swap. I am going to build another one because the prototype is a little rough because I ended up taking apart the chevy motor when I really did not need to. The Blower motor can be found from 15.00 to 20.00 at the auto parts store. Its just another option for us on our trucks. The were no clearance issues at all using this motor. I went and looked up a new blower motor from one of the scout vendors and it was 100.00 plus shipping.

Here are some pictures of some of the things I have worked on and are working on.

This shows the radiator overflow bottle I installed. I went to the local auto parts store and bought the biggest one they had which is not very big. But it comes with everything you need to put it in minus the bolts. The bracket comes to you strait so I bent it so I could use the stock fender mounting bolt and I drilled another hole and used the same size bolt and nut that is stock for the truck so it would match. I tested it out last weekend going to the HCB meeting and it worked great.

Next is a picture of the mounting bracket for the emergency brake cable. I used all Chevrolet emergency brake cables and the peddle from an 80's full size blazer. The Bracket that goes on the differential mounts to a diff cover bolt and then a stud that is built into the diff by the pinion yoke. The Scout II dana 44 does not have this stud so I cut down a bolt and welded it to the diff and put a cap nut on to secure it. I still need to paint the rear diff and bracket.

The next thing I install from the local parts house is a new rear view mirror, which I found to be useless when driving down the highway because the scout 80 foldable windshield shakes at 65 mph so you can not see out of the mirror, but it looks good any how. Does anyone know how to keep and 80 windshield from shaking in the wind with the top off?

To get the scout ready for the road I bought a set of the champagne turn signal lenses off of our good friends at IHOnly North. They were on sale through ebay. I dont think they look too bad but I do like the darker orange ones better. They were half the cost of the other ones.

Currently I am trying to do several other minor things. I am working on mounting my high lift jack to my tire carrier. Here it is mocked up into place. I am going to weld scout II wheel studs onto the carrier and use locking wheel nuts that match the ones on the wheels to secure it.

I am also going to install a new rubber boot to cover the hole that the steering column goes thru on the fire wall. I picked this up at the local home inproovement place. I used one of these for a pipe going thru the metal roof on the ranch house. It might work out ok.

Here is the hole, I measured it and it just barley fits.

Thats all of the updates for now. If anyone wants more pictures in detail on anything I have done please let me know.

One last update. I finished the high lift jack mount onto the rear tire carrier.

I welded on two 1/2" bolts and used lock nuts. I know I said I was going to use wheel studs and locks and I will later but I got impatient and wanted it done now so I can do other things.

Impatient about what? Starting the build on your other 8 Scouts you got stashed???

Looks good. How does the clearance for your tailgate look, hard to tell in the pics. Glad you are getting stuff done, way better than me currently.....

There is lots of room for the tailgate. I swung it out before welding to make sure everything cleared. The closest point the jack is to the truck is at the end cap which is about 2 inches away. The rest of the jack has about 4" of clearance for the tailgate so it will not even come close to hitting it.

Now I need to find some 5 gal gas cans and make mounts to mount 2 of them to it as well as a space for a shovel. I might even make a rack to go onto the top of it that will be removable so I can store an ice chest or other things like extra parts for the war wagon for when we go on the trail.

I only have two more scouts to do. The GOLD one is going to be the really cool Scout. I think I might name it GOLDEN EYE. Or French Fry.

Great Progress Tres!

As far as the Jerry cans go, you could have one for extra gas and one like this;

Just saying,....
