Picked up flywheel, clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. No pilot bushing as yet.

Installed new front bump stops. I think the clutch bell crank needs some work but lacked the energy to rip it apart after a day of PSQL delight. Maybe tomorrow for the bushing.

Picked up pilot bushing from EnglerBros. Randy and Larry had it waiting for me on Saturday morning. Dimensions 1.057 od Id .75. It matches off to a peculiar thimble like adaptor that goes on the transmission input shaft. I have read that when the bearing is press fit that it will reduce the Id by a couple of thou. Suposidly before the press fit I should chill the bushing. Heh I have some liquid nitrogen in a Dewar maybe I will just dip it. I also got a loaner forced oil pot to pre oil the motor before startup.

Pic of Randy with clutch.

Pulled the cotter pin from the clutch bellcrank linkage and the bellcrank fell to the floor. Hmm says I to myself maybe there is a problem here. The PO was creative, when the ball of the ballstud broke off he reversed the frame rail side ballstud and slipped a plastic pipe nipple into the end reassembled and went on his way. So now I need to solve the old bellcrank linkage bearing fab or not to fab problem.

Froze then pounded the pilot bearing into the crankshaft. Not very satisfying operation. The thimble adapter has a couple of thou play in the bushing. Waiting for 12mm x.125 funny bolt for driver side engine mount. What makes it funny as it is the only 12mm bolt on the 4.0l block. Ordered an assortment of parts that may or may not help clutch linkage. I am going to try the dodge z link parts, may be a fools errand. Spherical plain bearings are calling me.

Thanks for the info. I was scouring around the posts and ran into this

pics and everything. I would have certainly missed the 640 permatex sleeve retainer! I would have used molybdenum disulfide, wrong way.

Terry,
nice build. I like you are taking pics of the people that are helping you along the way. Class act.

Cheers,

Good news bad news. Good news was I got some parts in today. The 12mm bolts fits the engine mount after cleaning the threads on the block. I would bet that there was no bolt in that hole for a bit. Got the dodge Z bar parts. They plastic bushings are correct. The clip is correct. The ball studs well not quite right, wrong threads wrong overall length. But now the 64 thousnad dollar question how does the ball stud mount on the frame side bracket?

Pressing on I torqued the flywheel to the crank. I mounted the clutch and pressure plate. I mounted the engine mounts to the frame. I then decided to stuff the engine into the Dinosaur's open mouth. I must have missed basic alignment class in school as I could not get the transmission input shaft any closer than the the nose into the clutch spline. Not the spline into the spline. Just the nose. I think that I need 7 more jacks and three more people. Maybe I can jam the input shaft into the clutch fingers and break something off.

I pulled the engine back out. I will try again tomorrow.

Well tomorrow is here and almost gone. Did some more data scouring here (sorry no attribution) found answer the ball stud was welded to the frame bracket. So I guess that I will make one of those dodge ball studs look like a Scout ball stud and weld it to the bracket on the frame. Bought a 2 ton floor jack at PEP boys $18 + TAX, how can they do that?
Jack will help with flying the motor into submission. Checked the clutch alignment to the pilot bearing again and decided used wrong clutch alignment tool, back to Engler's and got the correct one. Will remount the clutch and pressure plate. Always time to redo what should have been checked in the first place. Working after work, well at least I did not crush myself. I have decided that the thimble adapter was good IH design as will help alignment when joining engine to transmission.

More good news bad news.
Good news ADDCO sent me FOC the new poly sway bar mounts. Wow is that incredible customer service. Bad news no energy to install them or anything else on the beast. Left work at 7:00pm no more zip.

Today progress.
James turned down the Dodge ball stud to the IH size. Then rolled the Scout back to the weld shop and they glued the ball stud to the frame bracket.
