I have a huge amount of respect for Internationals. I have since I was 4 and my neighbor across the street from me bought a new one. It was my favorite 4x4 when I was little, even better than my Dad's '74 Blazer. I was in love. So far I have built this thing on the smallest budget, probably smaller than anyone's build on here. With that being said it is my daily driver and work truck. I do Historical renovations for a living so I have to have a level of professionalism to please my clients. The best part is that evryone of my clients have absolutely loved the old binder. You really can't beat the big inch Cadillac engines. Keep your eyes open for 472s also. Thanks again. Great swap, I've been thinking about doing the same thing with my C900. What did you end up doing with the original center crossmember? Did it clear everything or did it have to come out?

Just another update.
After gallons upon gallons of OIL I have chose to rebuild another 500. What I found wrong with the original one was most of the umbrella valve seals were gone, 5 of the push rods were marred and slightly bent, 3 rod bearings had significant play and so many leaks it was discusting.![]() What I will say is, even with the issues I had, that this was the best thing I could have done for this truck. The power from that wore out engine is shocking and surprising. I have towed many times and hauled many heavy loads and every time I have a grin from ear to ear (until I have to put more oil in...). So I decided to build another one that has a stock cam, 30 over pistons, hi-po oil pump and a hi-flow FlowKooler water pump. I put new, good quality, 8mm plug wires and a Pertronix ignition. Today was the "fire-in-the-hole" day. It fired right up, ran it to 2400rpms for 25 minutes and everything was perfect. This was a learning experience for me to say the least. I have gathered a ton of information on these suckers. I'll have a few pics of the fresh install tomorrow and performance details shortly there after. BloodyKnuckles |

Sad but true. Thanks for the chuckle though.
Here is a pic of the new one in it's place; ![]() So I spent the day driving around and I have to say it is wierd to not have all the friendly knocks and ticks that I have grown accustomed to. It is so quiet its odd. Power is nice. Very nice. All I have to do now is change the mufflers. The one's I have on there are a good sound but I think I want a quieter style. Funky pic of it with the painted hood. ![]() Long term reports will follow. BloodyKnuckles |

You are obviously highly talented in putting together old iron, transmissions and all. How about turning some attention to hybrid drives for an IH truck. You could be a trail blazer. Like electric wheel motors which use regenerative braking and a small diesel running a generator and batteries to power it.
I wonder where the price of gas is going. In 10 years will large v-8's become as rare as hens teeth? Just forget the fake green part. http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/21/p...make-an-f-150/ |

So what's the car in the background in #94? A 1948 Ford?

It's a close friend of mine's '41. It is just about ready for paint. That is his garage. As you can see, there are a few more in there; a '58 Pontiac wagon, '54 Oldsmobile, and a '34 Terraplane. I love his shop.
Been driving the truck for a couple days now. The seat of the pants performance is a significant difference over the old 500. Also, did a couple dead stop launches with incredible tire spin for a 7500# tank. Pretty pleased as of now. BloodyKnuckles |

Ok. So ive been saving parts and getting ready to do this swap but in a Chevy 1 ton 4x4. I am getting very close because I think Ive found the right engine. 500's arent very common in my area...too many scrappers. But Anyway....my question is are you still liking this engine? Do you regret it? What kind of milage are you getting? Power? Anything else you could tell me about this engine before I pull the trigger? Thanks and I appreciate it. I really love your truck and think its one of the coolest ive read about.
