Could be something with the wastegate stuck partially open or not getting enough fuel or something.

Hmm... well, if I'm going to tear any turbo's apart, I might as well wait until I can tear apart the Holset. I really want to see if I can make it work on my SD33T. It shouldn't be an issue of not getting enough fuel anymore, now that the fuel leak has been repaired. I'm actually quite impressed with the performance of the engine now; I had no idea it could actually be as fast as it is.

I'll just deal with it for now, since it's not really a daily driver. I can't stand it wandering all over the road when I do drive it, so it's been put on the back burner for the time being. Gotta rebuild the whole front axle now and see if that fixes the problem.

I'll post back once I do get something figured out with this.

Finally figured out why the EGT's were so damned high... I was talking to my buddy just today who built the engine for me, and I brought up the Scout. He told me he had turned up the IP himself when he built the engine.

So, I went out and turned the thing down another full turn, and what do you know? My EGT's are pretty steady around 800 while driving now, and it won't go over 1100 anymore. And, for some reason, the engine seems to run a lot better at operating temperature now (I was having trouble getting it to heat up to over 150 degrees before). So yeah... lesson learned.

I'm not gonna say I told you so... Oh wait I just did
Anyway, I'm just glad you learned your lesson without blowing up your engine! That would have been one less SD33 powered Scout on the road and we just can't have that. Good luck and happy trails.

I know, I know.

Anyway, the SD33 is coming out of this Scout here in a few weeks to get replaced with one of my 6.2's and an SM465. It's a '72 body, so I don't feel bad about doing an engine transplant. I need to find a good '80 body for the SD33 to go back into now. Maybe one with a bad engine.... that would be great. Then it's like I'm saving another diesel instead of ruining one.
