I went with the chrome dash panel plates as well. Nice to see the look of yours against the red. A few questions.... Did you do the hurculiner yourself? If so, how did you apply it? And where did you mount the fuse box? I have my new wire harness kit from Rebel wire and I am having a heck of a time deciding where to mount it. What are you doing for your headliner? Is the origional still there, did you paint the ceiling (hard to tell from the pics)? I am now motivated to paint the interior of mine.....damn you for making me do more work!

I did the Herculiner myself. My father-in-law bought a gun at Napa (they had to order it). He's one of these great guys that has just about every oddball tool you could want and I get to borrow them. He said it was pretty cheap. Anyways...Herculiner makes a one quart can that screws onto the bottom of that gun. These seem to be hard to find. He saved one that I simply poured my Herculiner into. I bought a gallon of it and used every drop. If you have O'reilly's in your area it should still be on sale and after a rebate you get it for $50 a gallon. You have to scuff the surface (they recommend scothbrite pads), tape very well and start spraying. I've seen it rolled on and the spray works and looks much better. My fusebox ended up under the dash on the driver's side firewall. The top of it just covers the bump out for the hood hinge (doesn't interfere with anything). I ended up with one mounting bolt in the engine bay and one in the wheel well. It made it a nice location to use the factory hole in the far corner of the firewall to run the main trunk of wires through to the engine bay. As far as headliner; mine has some vinyl junk glued up there with something NASA must have developed. I am still trying to get it off. Once it's off I will apply Peel N Seal to the ceiling and then have a headliner shop glue in a new foam/cloth headliner still utilizing the old cross supports (which I painted red).

Well it's time to get back to work. Life gets in the way and mechanics flake out on you. I think it was all for a reason that this took so long. While waiting to drop in the 4bt a fellow member finished his single cab 2wd 4bt and I had the chance to ride in another 4bt full size. I decided that the 4 cylinder may not have been my ideal motor after all. As I said at the beginning I wanted to drive this truck and be comfortable doing it. Rattle aside I just think the 4bt would have been a strain with my Travelette at highway speeds. I could be wrong but hey it's my truck.
Fast forward a few months, a buddy of mine mentions his low mileage 12v/5 speed sitting on his shop floor. A handshake later and we are in the process of shoehorning the 6bt in my 67 Travelette. Don't bombard me with questions yet, the motor is resting in the frame still hanging on the chains. We are both very busy guys and will be taking our time getting the crossmembers built and everything mounted up. I can tell you we are using factory style mounts with a bolt in crossmember and relocating the AC compressor above the GM 1 wire alternator. I'm keeping the getrag tranny (hold your rotten tomatoes, it came with it for free and is in good shape). The tranny landed about 6 inches from the Transfer Case. To remedy this we are swapping front and rear drive shafts and moving the TC back about 11 inches netting me a 17 inch pup shaft to have made. I will post pics when I have something worth seeing. I know it's been awhile but I am excited to see this thing roll.

going to the 6BT is a great idea. There are all kinds of products out there to wrap the engine and quiet it down. It's also a smoother running engine. So when all is done, it can be quieted down almost to the level of the new generation trucks.
Plus, you can sell the 4BT pretty easily, for more than the 6BT. And then there's the whole HP & torque situation. "There's no replacement for displacement" ![]() Will look forward to more pictures of progress, as you have time. Good luck!

![]() ![]() Even Better plan ![]() ![]() Although a 4BT drags around a bread van pretty well, I think you like the 6BT better in a fool sized truck. The 6BT is smoother/less vibration, too. Although...I'd start shopping for a D60 'cause a D44 ain't gonna be real happy with 1,000 lbs worth of 5.9L torque monster sitting on it. Very nice work so far... now where's the :jealous: :envy:  smilies?

Like. Can't wait to see it. You should take a rig like that to RMIHR.
Who did the 4BT you rode in? M

Hey Mike, Good to hear from you. The 4bt was up in Iowa. I was up there for some meth lab training at Ft Dodge and a guy at the hotel I was staying at had it. Not an IH (66 furd) but it was close enough to get the general idea.
