Here you go. put it right on the dash. It has a nice gimbal mount for off road conditions... http://www.go2marine.com/product.do?...F&WT.mc_id=gb1

Look in the upper right corner. You can see my cup holder, you can get these at most any sporting goods store or even Wally World and mount them in several spots on a Scout. It's a water bottle holder for a bicycle

Walmart. They sell a cheap $11.00 cup holder that fits very nicely in the middle, if you don't have a bench seat.
The cups holders are even adjustable.

The PO of my Scout put a cheapo single cup holder on the (manual) tranny cover. It works perfectly and it's easy to reach.

Here is my cup holder setup. I already had the gauge panel in place and wanted something that would connect to it with minimal work. My other requirements included durability, simplicity, versatility, and a setup that would match the rest of the truck.
There are three pieces to the cup holder assembly; two cut out of a 3” pipe and one made from a 3/16” diameter rod. I got the stock to make the pieces from a salvage yard and it cost $2 The rod is held by two nylon straps (for electrical wiring) and secured by small machine screws with stainless steel stop nuts and the hardware cost about $3 total. The rod allows the cup holder to swing for hills and to accommodate tall water canteens. The pipes were slotted (opening up to about 3-1/2” diameter) to also allow for mugs and cups with handles. The pipe rings are 3-1/2” tall. So the rod was bent in a vise and the pipe was cut with an angle grinder. All metal edges were de-burred with a file and the areas to be welded were ground bare. I used two tack welds on each cup holder behind the rod so they would be obscured from sight. After welding, the entire unit was sandblasted and then coated with flat black enamel paint to match everything else.
