Anyway, if my description sounds like something anybody here knows something about I would appreciate the enlightenment. Side note: some guy came in to work today asking me how much I would sell my Scout for. I told him that it would be very unlikely for me to sell it being that I'm the second owner and very attached to it. He insisted on a price, so I told him that I wouldn't even consider anything below $8000. Looking around online, I think I put it about ballpark right for comparable rigs, but there is a quite a range. I guess that's where sentimental value weighs in, but now I think I may have set the bar a little low on that mark. I guess I haven't adjusted for inflation...

Don't know much about rattle link clutches but easily could be. There's a cover under there you can remove to see the clutch.
I don't know the condition but $8K may be fair. But don't sell it!!!!!

Thanks, I don't intend to sell. The thought that goes through my mind since that guy came by is that I don't know this guy from Adam. He may be a complete idiot that would drive my Scout right off a cliff. So the real question when figuring a price is how much would you sell your Scout for if you knew that the buyer was just going to crush it for scrap- basically if you sell it it is gone forever. thinking about it that way, there is no price that I can imagine taking for my Scout. I may as well sell a member of my family. Interesting food for thought.
Does anyone familiar with the Rattle Link know if it becomes a mechanical failure or is it just an annoying noise?

Might be the throw out bearing. You can see it with the above referenced cover removed.
Some have a zerk fitting on the TO bearing collar that need to be greased every so often. Greasing that is about all you can do besides taking out some of the slack in linkage by turning the rod in the footwell from under the dash. Do not overtighten, leave a little toe play.
