Default carb M5H6

Hi all,

Today I finally got a change to fire up my red diamond, It runs nice but when it idled for a while fuel was dripping out of the bottom of the carb, would that be a bad needle and seat of the float?

I also have one bad exhaust manifold, the one closest to the waterpump, would there be any stock of these?

Thanks,

Stefan

Stephan,

It may be a bad needle & seat, or the float, or both, but I have never worked on one of those Zenith carburetors to know. Not many people have. To help you understand, tune, and repair your carburetor, you should get the manual from Binder Books.
Shop Talks for International Servicemen Number 12 / Carburetor Service - 63 Series
This is a very detailed 8-page booklet that was only available to IH servicemen, and is the most detailed information I have found on operating, rebuilding, and repairing the Zenith Model 63 updraught carburetor that was used on the M-1-4, M-2-4, M-3-4, M-5H-6, and halftracks. Most of this information is not found in any of the service manuals or in Motor Manuals.

You will notice that there is a plug on the bottom of the carb, or should be. There is a sintered air filter in that plug. That alleviates flooding by allowing fuel to drain out slowly. If the plug is missing, you need to get one. if it is still there, then you are flooding, which leads me to reach the same conclusion that you reached.

I may have that manifold. It is still stuck to the center piece. If I can get them apart without breaking, it may be for sale. It will be at least two weeks before I will know if I will be successful.

Thanks Colin, that helps a lot, today I'll try to fix that, and I hope the manifold will come apart in one piece!!

Thanks,

Stefan

Hi guys,

Well, the engine runs like new, impressive sound, sure something different then a CCKW!!!

Made new ignition wires, installed new cap-rotor-points-condensor. rebuilt fuel pump etc.

I just drained the diffs, the look very good, I only opened one cover just to make sure.

The brake shoes are at the truck shop for new linings, the front linings we had in stock, and I riveted them back together.

A brand new master cilinder and brake hoses are also mounted.

We had no seats, so I took a set of NOS CCKW closed cab ones, and they look sweet in that cab!

One of the last things to do is getting those brake cilinders!!! I only got one NOS G147 rear left hand side, no I really need the rest.

Dave mentioned that NAPA sold the front cilinders, do you know that part number?

Regards,

Stefan Leegwater

Default M-5H-6 manifold

Stephan,

Do you still need the front section of your exhaust manifold? I was able to get a junker apart with that piece intact. If so, send me a note.

Hey Colin,

Yes, and now with my first outing after years the middle piece also has a crack......

I had lots of fun with my truck and drove 100 km through Dutch dirtroads etc.

We had a club weekend with KTR. more than 340 vehicles on one spot, it was amazing!

No problems with the truck at all and lots of power, amazing!

Maybe you can pm me for details,

Thanks,

Stefan
