Don't waste your money shopping at scoutparts they are always higher than anyone else.

Also don't waste your money on a Pertronix. I don't recommend them for any IH but for the 6 cyl especially since there is a cheap available from your local parts store electronic ign distributor.

You want a Motorcraft distrbutor from a mid 70's Jeep/AMC. Then look in the fuel injection forum here for the "duraspark conversion" You can ignore the distributor conversion part of it since you are putting in a complete duraspark distributor. You just want to use the wiring diagram and module described in the write up. A reman distributor, and HEI module will cost you less than the best price on the Pertronix, even less if you find a used distributor. In the unlikely event you need to replace module on that system they are available on the shelf at any parts store. While with the pertronix when it does fail, and it will, you've got to wait for the privilege of paying more for a unit that can't make as strong as a spark.

Here you go.
Consider this a present since I too like the DS distr conversion.
But for the price...it has the same 4 pin GM ignition module so it's all in one package.
Can't beat the price!!!

I'd get my clutch rebuilt long before Id buy one from either of them, that's just a run of the mill everyday pressure plate, a relined disk is in order.

I'd get an HEI out of a Chive 6 and swap the gear on the shaft with the AMC gear and it's a one wire hook up!, but I'd run a relay and power it right off of the alternator!, NEW off shore "AMC" HEI's are available for CHEAP! on FleaBay, for less that the "PukeTronix" kit!

HEI in it's stock configuration isn't that good, using the Motorcraft module with the HEI module is the better way to go. With the coil in the cap a bad plug, disconnected or bad plug wire can cause the module to fry. The pickup isn't as reliable as the Ford unit either and with the conversion you can use a Ford TFI coil and it's stronger and more reliable than the HEI in cap unit.

I am really glad you started this thread. I just purchased my first Scout last Saturday (8 Sept), a 1970 800a, and it is (factory) equipped with the AMC 232 inline 6 cylinder engine. I have also been exploring the electronic ignition options.

Here are some that I came up with from misc Yahoo searches and exploring J**p forums.

http://www.amazon.com/D-U-I-Performa...uckduckgo-d-20

http://www.northernautoparts.com/Pro...entoryId=62043

http://www.cyberjeep.com/other/pr/du...ce-distributor

From my observations, the DUI distributors seem to have a pretty good reputation, and I am exploring that route.

Which ever way you go, please post a summary.

Jerry

This will have to go on the back burner while i get a motor put together for a 1210 - The DUI is out for me as it is too pricey and I thik the elect dist for the jeep app will be good enough. since I do have time I will def take the advice and send the clutch off to be rebuilt. I owned this scout about ten years ago and gave it to a freind when I had to move, now have it back. I really like the motor. Probably isn't ideal for travelling around in freeway traffic but for getting around in the hills it is the way to go. It is a good running, dependable, easy to work on power plant. My 6 was built in 70 and as I understand it has a shorter deck and different bellhousing than the later ones that have the same bellhousings as the v8. The only upgrades I plan for this are the dist and carb - I wouldn't even do the carb except the throttle shaft is worn out. When I get around to it I might see if I can find a weber. Eric V seems to know the dist stuff and I think wrench man is the amc guy if you wanted to know which head and manifolds to get for fuel injection.

Hello Sotis,

Was going through some old threads, and was wondering if you have had a chance to move forward on your AMC 6 distributor?
