Default Re: 70 Travelall Chassis Swap Question

The 10x0 series trucks use front axles coded FA8 or FA9, disc brake were optional on 70-73 versions of those and a knuckles out swap fits 61-73 (67-73 use the same spindle, 66-down are a little different)

Search "travelall disc brakes" for lots of reading on this topic...
Swaping to 4wd is a major pain on the 10x0 trucks due to the front suspension and frame design, all the other 1x00 trucks use front leaf springs, hence easy conversion. 74-75 100, 200 also use ifs and a a pain to convert.

There is no real advantage to the tahoe over the travellall setup other than the overdrive and maybe 5-8mpg more gas mileage . For the money you could sell the donor do a 4x4 setup. Then add Throttle body fuel injection on the 392 and maybe even a 4l60e swap behind the 392.[/QUOTE]

You may loose most of that 5-8 mpg gain since the travlelall body is allot heaver then the Tahoe body. A fully stripped TA body w/o doors, interior and glass is around 4K.. by itself.
