Default fort collins here i come

it is looking good ... if all goes well i will be relocating to fort collins colorado..... the reason for my post is soon after is when the engine rebuild will start... fuel injection is on the table but i worry about emission testing.... have done some research... as far as the tailpipe test probably wont be a problem... but the visual test... i mean they look right... do they know what they are looking at in a truck that think is a bronco and when you say scout they say huh???... would i get that lucky... curious of some real world experience

on a side note ... thanks to mike and gary for helping me out with a donor engine... i sure seems like more binders out that way....

its a 76 scout II 345 t-19wide... 3.73 on 33s when done.... getting ready to pull motor out of truck and get donor on a stand also... start getting into them both and pick the best one...

ok guessing that no one wants to be the giver of bad news.... but here is what i have found out so far

modified engines have to be the same year engine if replacing original..... how do i find the year my engine was made????... i think it can be a newer one just not older

after work is done..

then i have to go to a "tech center" and have it looked at and get paperwork from them that wiil tell the station what equipment i need to have on the vehicle for the test

also have learned that the 76 because of year and weight classification had practically nothing on it to start with originally.... is that correct....

also there are stickers somewhere on the truck that will tell me things i need to know... would like some input on that... locations and what am i looking for.... thanks...Matt

waiting on a phone call back from tech at tech center.... hoping he will say something not so general and be a little encouraging about the swap

Just don't tell them it is a modified engine. I am sure they aren't going to take the time to run numbers.

Colorado Springs doesn't have emissions for gasoline powered vehicles anymore but when we did the visual inspection was specific for certain components or condition. So if you truck was required to have AIR injection, catalytic converter, gas tank filler restrictor and EGR valve then that is what they looked for on your truck. They also look at the condition of the tail pipe, it shouldn't be rusted and full of holes. They didn't care if your truck had been converted to fuel injection, LPG or anything else. That is what the tail pipe test is for in determining whether you passed or not. The last two years we had emissions test I had my Terra converted to the GM TBI fuel injection and the tester didn't care.

Matt,

When you get here, just take it over and get it tested. Don't mention the replaced engine, they won't ask. Put a new gas cap on it before you go if it's more than a year old. Every one I've had tested (IH or not) failed the first time for the gas cap, and it's cheaper than making a second trip out there.

Pay the $15. If it passes, you're done. If it fails, give me a call and we'll figure out what it needs to pass the free retest within 10 days.

The Emissions Sticker is on the cowl plate under the hood above the bulkhead connector and between the hood bumpers.

Good Luck,

Will Marsh
