Cut the square tubing for my side steps. Everything layed out in mock-up. Still need to clean up the cuts, grind the edges and weld together. |

The Scout is looking good
Nice job on the dash, that looks sharp.Your shackle angle looks fine, although both your front shackle and rear shackles are way longer than I would run. Longer shackles have less lateral stability (even with a crossbar). What I would be concerned about is your caster angle. Looks like you need to do a cut and turn on your knuckles. Based on this pic: You want about 5* positive caster (top of the knuckle tilted back) Scouts had horrible caster from the factor (0*) so when you run longer shackles up front, it makes for a good pinion angle, but tilts the knuckles forward (negative caster) Negative caster will have poor handling, wandering, and weak return to center. There's many good threads on here about how to do a cut and turn, (that's a misnomer, you don't actually cut anything off) but basically, pull the wheel/hub/spindle off, grind down the weld on the inner C, beat the C into submission, double check the caster is even on both sides, then weld it back up.

That might be something to tackle down the road. I don't have much time left in Florida to take on a job that's unfamiliar. Still need to have this thing driveable for the move to the next assignment.

I know that feeling well, most of the progress on my Scout was made in a last minute wrench-a-thon right before the movers showed up to start packing.

Got the side steps all together then lined them up underneath the truck and tacked them to the brackets. Took them off and burned everything in pretty good. Going to have these coated with the line-x as well. That's all I got done today due to lens losing power and having my eyes flashed, slag getting in my ear, stabbed in the back by a loose piece of wire on the ground, and with all the mosquitos plus the heat, I decided to call it a day. |

That looks really nice. I love the Super Scout look on the inserts.
