Default Re: leftovers!

its about the same as the last time i posted. i have bolted up a few parts getting the motor ready to run. i'll play with it every once in a while while waiting on parts for customer builds. but i just don't have the time to devote to it right now. truth be told a full weekend of work and it would be ready to take a trip around the block. once i can do that i'll know what else to fix besides the obvious.
i am about to finish the rolling chassi for the Bluefish build. once that is done i might take the time to wrap up leftovers to the point i can move it around in the driveway. it will be some time before i can go whole hog into this truck again. as i have several other builds waiting in line once i finish Bluefish. i'm glad work is taking off, but i'm to the point now i need another person helping and a bigger shop space. anyway. subscribe to the thread and standby. i'm always out in the garage working, so i'll get to it one day. thanks for the interest.

so i got a wild hair today and decided to work on this scout. got the ignition finished and put the steering column back in. filled it with oil and primed it. got it timed by hand and hooked up a fuel line to a gas can. battery was dead but some jumper cables and a little either it fired off!

it's ALIVE! (evil scientist voice)

i had previously done a few small things here and there. motor ran before so not a huge surprise. but has been sitting a long time now. couldn't let it run. just wanted to let it show signs of life. still need to put the pulleys on and rad hoses hook up the trans lines.
bolt up power steering and alternator. change trans filter and fluid. repair front brake line. bleed brakes. then maybe i can take it around the block. thats a big MAYBE, as this truck has yet to move under its own power. as i went through it i could not find a reason it was parked and neglected for so many years. so i have my doubts about the transmission or axles. fingers crossed the drive line is good. anyway it will have to wait. it was fun to work on something for myself for a change. but have to get back to Freedom scout and get it back to a driver. so the fun work can begin. thanks to those who haven't forgot about this build!

So this is the Scout II thats been setting in your drive way? I kind of assumed it was yours...
I had no idea you were doing something like this Jared! Outstanding man. Really!
Count me in! I can put up some cash if you still need it. At least $100 maybe more depending on how much Freedom Scout costs me. That 5k "budget" we set didn't quite work out did it. I would love to help with the labor as well. Wanted to get some wrench time in with you anyway. If there is ANYTHING I can do to get this kid on the road please let me know!

i take it you did not read the entire thread. go back and read up to date. it is mine now. not my choice. just the way it worked out.

looked over this truck this evening to see what else it needs. to get going.
i WANT to get this truck driving so it's easier to move. i NEED to get this truck running and moved. since the HOA has been sending me sanford and son letters.

so anyway it has and is a back burner project as a whole but have to get it going soon.
so anyway i need:
alternator brakets (anybody? sully/dirk?)

fan clutch. have one but doesn't fit now. maybe new water pump is different?

fan? well there are a coulpe around here but not sure which one is right. wil figure it out once i get the right clutch.
need to get fan and all in put in radiator and hoses. put the belts on. drain flush and filter on trans. replace rear brake line flex. repair front brake hard line. bleed the brakes.
then cross fingers and hope for the best.

HA! Guilty as charged. I read the first several pages and the last few... Totally missed the fallout.
Glad you kept the truck. Hope you don't still feel somehow guilty for it. 100% Justified. Sill wanna help get the truck where you need it to be when I get home.

i have mixed feelings about it. but should make for a nice scout someday. hoping to rewrite the original intent of the project and make it a father son build and have it completed by my oldest sixteenth birthday.

[QUOTE= so anyway i need: alternator brackets (anybody? sully/dirk?)[/QUOTE]

I should be in the Scout Lair most of the weekend working on wheel bearings and ball joint replacement, but can look to see if I have an extra alt bracket, beyond the one for my other 304, (which will at least temporarily go to Wilbur). I don't know if I have a fan clutch or not but I'll look tonight and get back to you.
