Where to start... Probly my favorite. The ductwork/ tin that attaches the blower and heater core apparently rotted or became separated so the po removed the blower and spliced in more hose so the heater core reached the drivers seat( apparently a radiant heat technique) he was kind enough to keep the motor in he back seat which works fine and is now back installed proerly.
His floor pan repair included cutting the rocker panels completely out attaching angle iron with some welds and some chain. And patching some new metal over the old rotted pans. Any rot on the body got bondo clobber on it then covered with aluminum tape. leaking power streering pump and hose wrapped in aluminum foil. That's what I've found so far. Just to top off the jack *** ideas when I found the scout the po was a few days away from scrapping it. So to increase metal weight he filled it with empty soup cans and other light metal trash. |

Painted everything but the under side.
Drove it with out a front left brake for nearly 16 years. welded the door hinges wrong when they tried to fix them ....so then decided to redo all of them and really messed up all of em up. cut the wind shield frame a few inches larger than stock so then to fix made the inner frame smaller. I had no idea why the glass I had pulled out of another frame wouldnt fit right until i had spent 150 dollars at the glass place having them find the issue.

Let's see...the infamous starter button wired up and laying in the floor, next to that some mysterious looking electrical component that turned out to be a battery cut-off switch with no actual switch on it (found it in the prerequisite Scout parts box that surely comes with every specimen), the oft-mentioned 6 inch shackle lift with helper springs on the front (and it actually doesn't ride all that bad!), loads and loads of bondo sculpture, aftermarket manual choke routed into the cab instead of hooking up the automatic choke and possibly the most baffling modification...all four shocks were unbolted. The back ones were just swinging there and the front ones were unbolted from the top. I guess they weren't long enough to accomodate the shackle lift??? I am praying there isn't an electrcal fire before I get a chance to dig into the rest of the wiring...

1. Engine oil in the transfer case. 2. Used a chain around the rear axle to pull something and crushed the brake line. 3. Snipped wires hanging down under the dash. 4. Flat bed mounted with stacked lumber between frame and bed and long u bolts to secure it. 71 Travelall 1. Writing with black marker all over inside(so N so was here & the date) 2. Hit something so hard with the drivers side front wheel that it bent the axle housing and destroyed the spring hanger.

Heard this one before. The general consensus is that a squirrel did it.

If it was 50wt, then this was actually a correct application. Gear lube is for the diffs. 50wt motor oil goes in the gear boxes.

It was way too thin. My first clue was on the test drive when I couldn't shift the transfer case due to grinding. The guy says "you have to lock in the hubs first". I was familiar with that transfer case and knew that wasn't right, the oil was so thin it was spinning the front driveshaft and you had to stop it by locking in the hubs.

The PO:
Put in a new master cylinder, but used only one bolt. Brake lines coming of the MS were loose, said he couldn't figure out why he was having trouble bleeding the brakes. Rebuilt the carb, but used silicon, several pieces missing from inside the carb. Float was about 1/4" off. 8 new plugs, all with different gaps. New points set to .010

I dunno... I read through this entire thread and I don't see that any PO did anything wrong! LOL!
