Good point, I am using it, no doubt about it.

I wanted to post a final follow up to the install. It's been too awesome not to. Even better than I imagined it would be. I'm taking the Scout everywhere now.

I've always driven it daily but mostly around town. I travel all around East Texas for work and have been taking the Scout for the last couple weeks. I've put about ~1000 trouble free miles on it (222 just today) and now feel very comfortable/confident driving it all around the Piney woods of East Texas......no way I would have done this before the conversion. Very very cool

Couldn't be happier!

Sounds good.
Now you have about 5yrs of doing nothing but filters.

Speaking of which, should be time to change the fuel filter now that you have a few miles on it.

That's all the motivation I need. Sounds like after talking to Bill a few days ago I'll be running this route myself... I have to Iron out a few things and you can expect an order within a few weeks!

Bill,

Changed the filter ~3 days ago. It was black in the bottom. Perfect example why you asked me to change that first filter out to the clear.

Chris,

You won't regret it brother. I can promise you that.

Thought I would throw another update up. It's been a little over a couple months now and I'm still enjoying TBI.

First, besides changing the fuel filter in the post above, I have touched it, literally, not a finger on any of it. I have my chip where I wanted it and now I just start my truck and go.

Second, It's hot here now. It's been in the 90's everyday and not a hiccup, my carb would have already put me on the side of the road a few times by now. I'm not sitting in traffic or in a drive through with the hair standing up on the back of my neck now. TBI doesn't seem to give hoot how hot it is!

Couldn't be happier.

Jason and Bill,

This is an awesome thread here. The problems, hiccups, setbacks, solutions, and revelations in here are exactly what I would expect when I get started on my car. I'm taking notes and everything.

Jason, did you get the Xtreme FI unit installed or no? I see them still for $129 on eBay but it's just the base unit, no injector pod or injectors or anything like that. Do they put in new throttle shaft bushings and all that? I think it might be a good deal to pick that up and then I can get the injector pod and assorted bits from the JY and then order up some injectors from somewhere like RockAuto. I know my 351C is a hungry beast and I'm sure it would prefer the 61lb or 65lb injectors over the 55lb units.

Bill, I totally understand you telling it like it is and I don't need no stinkin' smilies to make my points either. Except this one...

My 5 year old daughter made me a Folgers can with some drawings on it. That can be my cuss words jar. I will probably save enough in there during this project to do it several times over.

I look forward to reading more and more on here as I get ready to pull the trigger on some bits and spend a few weekends in the garage putting the harness together on an old drawerless dresser we're not using anymore.

You sure your not related to Chuck Chatfield?

He's a great guy that lives in the same town.

He has EFI on his old scout.

Alan,

Glad it's been of help to you. It's been the most beneficial addition to the Scout by far.

Yes, I did install the the extreme EFI throttle body and it's a very nice piece. They install bearings in the throttle shaft so its even one more step up from the bushing. If you've got it in your budget, I would certainly recommend it.

I pieced it together just like you mention, injector pod and injectors from the JY unit.
