Make sure they can actually get it before you remove the old one

Hire a professional. The IH weatherstrip is kinda tricky in itself, and you really don't want ot risk breaking the glass. I have an old guy here locally that does it for me, charges $100. Well worth it. I cant watch cause it looks pretty painful to do. Just my $.02

Someone had mentioned on here in the last 6 months that a new batch of windshields had been made by one of the glass companies, coming out of China. (Even PPG is made over there now) I don't think it helped the price much but freed up supply. When I bought a new one almost 3 years ago the local independent glass shop sourced it through Guardian but the glass (going by the markings) was actually Safelite and looked to be 70s NOS.

Took me 14 years to find one locally. I paid $35 for a USED windshield because new was no where to be found. $90ish for new rubber and safelite charged me $65 to install it.

Also be aware
When you get the glass from 1 source and have another source install it, The installer will probably tell you that they will do their best. But if it breaks.......they are not responsible

Any update on D Series windshield availability? The crack in mine has grown to the point where it can no longer be ignored. Another concern is the frame itself. Mine looks entirely solid except for a patch of rust at the bottom of the A pillars. My concern is that when the old one is removed, there might be some unpleasant surprises. Any feedback is welcome.

Check with your local auto glass shop. Here in the Washington State they were available from Mygrant wholsale distribution. Also you may find plenty of rust in the upper area. Rust must be removed and killed or you will not be able to keep it sealed.

Haven't heard back from Safelite re a D series windshield, so I guess it's still a go. Main concern is now rust around the frame. Here's a pic, notice the two spots at the bottom of the a pillars covered in 100 mph tape. How worried should I be about the rest of the frame.
