Default vacuum

I installed a new gas tank in my 71 scout ii, it had a homemade one in it so im not sure of all thehoses are in the right spot but three of them were rotted off so i put new in and now my brakes locked up the motor cuts out at about 35 and it dont seem like it will go any faster or shift after that. I did put a new master cylinder and brake booster and was having problems getting brakes and then having too much brakeThought i had it about right til now. Before i did this it ran awesome so i guess what im asking is how much the five lines on the tank have to do with the vacuum. Im not very mechanically inclined if you cant already tell so please help lol!

Sorry to hear about your troubles Griff. I'm going to try to decipher your post as I'm not sure I understand it right. I may not be able to answer these questions but if we clear up the ?'s, maybe someone can. It's not an issue your not mechanically inclined, that's what this board is for.

So We have 3 questions here, I think.

1. You would like to know where all the hoses go on a Scout II fuel tank?

Well, there are a lot of hoses from the factory and I can't tell you which one's go where. The two most important hoses are the filler neck and the vent hose right beside it. It hooks into the filler neck up under the rear fender. Maybe someone has a diagram they can post for you.

2. You're brakes locked up? You have a new Master Cylinder and new brake booster This won't have anything to do with the fuel lines by the way. Do you have a factory service manual? It will take through the process of adjusting the brakes. How did you go about bleeding the system when you installed the Master Cylinder? Did you set you're drums too tight?

3. Your motor cuts out @ 35mph and it's won't go any faster or shift @ that speed.
Give us more info on the setup. What motor, What tranny (auto?), Has any work been done to it? Might be fuel related considering you just changed the fuel tank. Did you change the fuel line to the fuel pump? Did you mess with anything in the engine that you recall?

Thanks,
Jason

Default Re: vacuum

Doing this from memory...
Largest orifice on the tank is the fuel filler inlet (obviously)
Next largest orifice goes to the vent pipe that runs along side the filler pipe.
As to the others, One is outgoing fuel to the carb and the rest are vents which depending on the year should connect to the vapor/liquid separator that is mounted inside the fender where that screwed on access cover plate is. On my 78 there are 6 connections on the vapor separator. Five go to the tank and one goes to the evap canister under the hood.
None of those lines should have anything to do with engine vacuum or be connected to an engine vacuum source.
