Default Parts questions

Hey folks. Got some questions here. Baught a 1969 scout 800a recently with a 304 and the three speed manual transmission in it. It's 4 wheel drive and I'm just wondering if anybody could tell me the name of the transmission I have and maybe which transfer case as well. Help is much appreciated. Motor needs to be replaced I got it and it was running but somehow only on three cylinders. I've got about 5k set aside for a new engine but am uncertain on which way to go, so any input there is also welcome. Not afraid to spend a little more I just want a reliable motor and trans setup for years to come. Thanks again for all the great insight.

Sounds like you have the T 14 transmission and a Dana 20 Transfer Case.

Pictures are always helpful with questions like these as previous owner modifications make assumptions much more unreliable.
Also, I didn't realize they still put 3spd transmissions in late model 800's.
Are you sure it's not a 4spd with non-synchroed 1st gear? (T-18)
If it is in fact a 3spd, my guess is a T-90... If that's the case I also doubt it's stock for your model. Again, the 3spd in a 69 is throwing me off a bit but a D-20 T-case is correct for an 800A. Don't worry, the BP Elders while correct me if I wrong.

Chevy 350's are probably among the most common non IH motors people swap in.
I like to keep things IH and therefor suggest a rebuild but I guess it depends on what you intend to do with the Scout... Depending on what work you can do yourself, 5 grand can go a long long way.
At any rate, a properly rebuilt 304 with a rebuilt T19 4spd/D20 would last a long long while and make a nice daily driver.

A T-14...
Thanks Rob!
I spent a few minutes trying to find info on 3spd 800's and couldn't find anything. By the time I posted you had already provided the answer. I've never ever heard of a T-14...

My intention is to have it be a daily driver and drive it to my property using 4 wheel drive multiple times a week. Keep in mind i will be driving it from sea level to above 3,000ft elevation on multiple passes where I live. I don't have much experience with mechanics myself but have friends who do. Seems like the gm 350 swap is most common I see on here. What trans do you think matches up best in that scenario. And my trans is definetly a three speed with reverse in top left. Feels good but I have heard that the t19 is better. Any thoughts?

Stock three speed trans would be a T-90, transfer case Dana 20. The T-14 didn't come along until later in the Scout II's I don't believe.

I thought "t-14" is the code IH used for a Warner T-90.

The '70 parts scout I had had a t-90 mated to a 304. I was surprised at that one. so my guess also is a T-90.

If you are looking for an easy engine swap, I would look for a 196. If you are up for some fab work any engine can be used.. But to change to an IH sv the way IH did it would be quite a bit of fab work.
