Default Re: Lock-o-Matic Drag Shoe Nut Sources?

I've never seen or heard of plastic lock washers. Only the very earliest versions of the unidirectional Lock-O-Matics use lock washers with drilled holes instead of slots. Those nuts are also unusual in that they had a single pointed set screw. Pretty early on they switched to the slotted washers and nuts with 3 dog point set screws. This was done as a safety feature so that you can always get 2 set screws to enter the washer.

The late model lock nuts used on Ford and GM vehicles are used with drilled washers. Those are the ones Bill suggested could be made into Lock-O-Matic or Automatic drag shoe nuts with time on a lathe, drilling and tapping holes for the set screws and spanner and maybe a little welding.

After ruminating on this thread and the other big one you wrote, last night I drug out the two loc-o-matic hubs I obtained from different sources (junk yard and this forum) to clean up and eventually install on my 1980. I also pulled out a large coffee can in which I had put miscellaneous nut-type hardward from other sources over the years. Not realizing the difference in ODs, I set about miking these things...have about four of the 2.25" jobs, and discovered that the "matching" hardware sent by the guy I bought a hub from, was also 2.25". Huh...good thing I checked. All those were pristine. I have four that are 2.125" - one is rusty and useless, and the other three have only two of their three screws useable, the third being buggered up....using punches is obviously the favored method of tightening these rings.

graedin-
I have a couple I'll sell you. $20 each plus shipping work? IM me and we can work it out.

The left one is a larger nut for an automatic hub. The two on the right are the smaller nuts.
