Ignition switch will run to + side of coil. If you do not have one, I highly recommend a Factory Service Manual.

---If you cut the weatherproof connectors I cannot help, but if they're still in tact, there would be no way to botch connections, as males do not connect to males & same with females.

---This post here describes connections using OEM connectors.

---x2 in regards to the value of an IH FSM.

If you have the factory harness for the Gold box, it has wires for the Coil + and -, and a plug for the distributor. It draws power from the Coil + terminal, same as the Pertronix.

Not so very much true. The connector that goes to the distributor AND the connector that goes to the wiring harness are exactly the same connector. The ones on my Scout II are all black wires, this is very fresh in my mind since I was into it about six hours ago

Suffice it to say that I was having all the symptoms of a dying gold box, to include cutting out, backfiring (hard enough to blow at least one of the two mufflers), running rough, etc. Being on a road trip and 150 miles from home, I had of course packed a brand new spare gold box from Rock Auto in the console. No problem, phillips screwdriver and 3 minutes and new module is installed. All was beer and skittles until I got the wires messed up.....I did mention they were all black, and it was 100 degrees and I was in a Target parking lot so I was kind of hurrying? Anyway, I got no fire when I tried to start the truck, so realizing what I must have done I swapped wires and still got no fire. Somewhere in this time span I noticed that the bulkhead connector (one of the cursed round shaped ones that early Scout II's used) was partially loose. Reinstalled it, still no go on the 'new' gold box, reinstalled my old 'bad' gold box and drove the next 150 miles trouble free, and as a bonus my formerly dead oil pressure gauge rose from the dead like Lazarus and worked all the way home too. So yes, on some Scouts it's not nearly that fool proof, I no doubt fried that new gold box by putting 12v to the plug that was supposed to handle the 'business out' side. Good thing I bought two so I still have a spare. So if your plugs are still there, use a test light to confirm the 'key on hot' wire goes on the red wire terminal of the plug on the gold box.

-Dennis,

---Nice catch!

-et al,

---Definitely don't just read the post & take it as gospel. Undoubtedly the link needs to be followed. My previous reply included a link to a reply in another thread, where it was questioned about how to hook up an OEM electronic dizzy. Second portion of the reply relates to the Holley; Has description of color codes. Yes, you can hook em up backward, especially* if the weatherproof ends have been cut off. The red & brown go to the coil.

---Sorry your venture didn't include less sweat. My first intermittent GB failure was similar but I was near home when it blew both mufflers, causing the neighborhood wannabe gang bangers to kiss their gravel driveway. Ripped them both open like sardine cans (that is, the mufflers).
