Well I worked on the Scout again today I removed all the carpet that was glued to the sidewalls and rear wheel wells and removed the 6x9's I had in the sidewalls. It looks rough with all that glue and carpet base over the original mint green color. Should I sand blast the side walls to remove the old glue and etc. or use paint remover or ??? anybody have any idea?

thanks,
Arkansas Dave

We had the same problem in the SSII. Very old carpet glue and lots of it. We tried a variety of chemicals, dry ice, scrapping but the best chemical we found was Aircraft Decal Remover: http://www.wmbarr.com/product.aspx?catid=82&prodid=121 We got it at Autozone. In the end we switched to sanding it off and repainting it. It was just too much area and that Aircraft Decal Remover stuff is not cheap. Here is our attempt: http://www.binderplanet.com/forums/s...2&postcount=16

Well I worked a little on the Scout again today worked on the rockers measuring and getting an idea of how I was going to replace the lip for the weatherstripping. I also took some pictures of what I did yesterday with the side walls and carpet removal.

Well I have been working on the Scout some more today I did a little yesterday and today I started removing the glue and old carpet backing off the sides with a razor scraper I didn't last real long the heat was way up and so was my blood pressure apparently. I worked for a little while though and got some removed. I will get back on it soon and try to post some new pictures. I am getting my daily driver/3rd car ready to paint so I can spray it this summer so it is holding me up a little on the Scout but I figure the work will give me extra practice so when I paint the Scout it will look better.

I been looking at what I am going to coat the inside of the Scout with I think after the rust treatment primer after cleaning up the surface rust areas I will coat it with a roll on bed liner before adding the sound deadening insulation and the carpet anyone have any products they have used and would like to recommend? I seen some stuff called Herculiner not sure how good it is anyone used it?

thanks,

I bet a needle scaler will knock that glue off, I would start out with the air turned down pretty low so you don't dent the sheetmetal.

I rolled in hurculiner on a Ford Ranger, it turned out great. I sold it soon after though so I don't know how it held up. I am thinking pretty well though. It doesn't look as good as spraying but it's cheaper since you don't have to buy the gun and extra xylene.

Thanks for the info, I haven't quit on the Scout just been trying to finish another project and beat the 108F days we been having it's been bad. My area has had 34 days over 100F and finally today it was around 98F at work it felt like a cold front came through! LOL Anyway I almost have this other vehicle ready for epoxy primer and then I am going to 6/12s for a few weeks and then hopefully paint the other project then back full time on the Scout as much as possible anyway.
