The converters are turned into non functioning parts supposedly by phosphorus antiwear additives in the oil in engines running e10 ethanol laced gasoline. Government has force dropped zddp to 400ppm from 1200ppm except for specialty blends which are exempt. Seeing these IH need high levels of ZDDP and now how EPA is mandating E15, I was wondering how catalytic converters on these older IH vehicles are performing? Anyone been flunking emissions testing due to failed cats? And is it going to get worse for older vehicles? People with these old IH flat tappet motors are going to want high zddp oils and are being forced to burn E10 or worse. |

Glad I don't have a catalytic, because I'm ZDDP rich!

That article is full of inaccuracies. SN oils can still have up to 800ppm as did the SM oils that didn't qualify for the exemption. Before the intro of SM oil there was no limit on the ZDDP content.
