Default NOS Tachometer - what years?

I just picked up this NOS Sun Tach in an IH box.

Sun model is ST-623 and the IH part # is 871345R92

I'm trying to determine the actual year range that this tach was sold by IH dealerships.

I'm thinking it would look pretty slick on the steering column of my 71 Comanche, but it would be even better if it is the same tach that would have been added from the IH dealer in 1971.

Anybody know how to determine the year range when IH sold this? I called Sun and they said that the ST line was produced from around 1960-70.

What a score!

The flanged bezel gives it the appearance that it would go in a gauge hole, or at least the size of one around 2 1/8".

Steering column tack-ons are retro high school, there might be enough dash to blend it in and look OEM to boot.

Steering column Sun tachs are muscle car cool and correct for the vintage:

Get a retro chrome cup and you are ready to go:

I'd probably mount it with something other than a clamp, however.

Still a very nice score, though it will be hard to put it on an 800's column without blocking a view of something or hard to see. I didn't care for column mounts back then either is where my comment came from.

I fabbed a bracket for a Sun tach and mounted it on the end of the heater box, with an upward angle I can see it easily with just a glance and have full view of the gauges and speedo with nothing in the way. Just a suggestion.

Where did you guys find your tachometers?
