Do ya'll agree? Are those aftermarket sets any good? Anything to lookout for or brands to avoid? |

Might want to check out some of the vendors products. There are several making aftermarket gauge panels to put over the stock dash. I have one that I am gathering parts to put in mine. You may find the problems are not the gauges but the crappy IH wiring that is 30 plus years old.

There are lots of examples of aftermarket guages on this site. Just search dashes or guages. I used Hasting guages. Mechanical oil pressure, mechanical temp, changed anmeter to volt meter and aftermarket gas guage. I kept the original speedometer because I didn't want to get that far into the projest. Others have added speedo and tach. The most work was the fuel guage I had to change the sending unit in the tank. A little fab work and body fill on the original dash insert when well. I feel that qualitiy aftermarket guages are more accurate and dependable than the originals.

I removed my outer cover and made a plate to mount the round gages to and reinstalled my outer cover.
My long term plan is to smooth a outer cover and weld a flat plate to cover the retangle holes. The cut for the round gages. And have Mike Moore re-cover with the woodgrain and black overlay. So it will have a more stock look to it. But my first try at it turned out OK. I didn't want it to look too much like a "Red Neck" Hack Job!
