old thread, but what kind of speed are you at to get the crappy mileage. Im wondering if you are actually lugging the engine- you have like 2.24 gears whne you are in OD and unless you are really flying- you arent in line with the designed cruising speed for 3.07 and 5.9.

The dodges that had direct drive trannies in 89 had 3.07 dana 70's in them. Dont know what kind of mileage they had, but yours is set up a bit different.

3.54's with actual 31" tires is what was stock with the OD dodge set-up. Those get a consistent 21 mpg. (12 valve 2wd)

Is there any chance your odometer is off? Have you double checked with GPS?
