While serial numbers can be faked or forged, I can't imagine why anyone would on a scout, unless someone wanted it to be one of a handful that presumably have some special collector value, ie. a Midas SSII or such.

That being said, every line setting ticket I have looked at had the engine serial number written in just under the chassis number.

Also, the vin# is stamped on the frame at the factory.

So if I had a scout with an engine serial number on the engine that matched the LST and a frame vin number and door pillar plate vin # that also matched the LST I would consider it a "numbers matching" scout.

That is true, but what the classic car world sees as a "matching numbers" car cannot be reliably determined on an International. The records kept by the company that we have access too just aren't good enough.

Quote:
Depending on whom you talk to, the definition of a “matching numbers” car may vary. A classic car purist might say that a truly original, matching numbers car will still have all the parts that it was manufactured with, including the tiniest nut and bolt. That would be very hard to find in an older car, so a more practical definition might be that all the parts will be either from the assembly line at the time of production or have been replaced with authentic NOS (new old stock) parts.
Quote:
The most general use of the term “matching numbers” would mean that the engine and transmission are marked with the same sequence number as the chassis VIN number, and the rear axle/differential’s date code and casting number corresponds with the vehicle that's being checked.

Separated the engine and tranny yesterday. I have everything I want off of it. It is nestled away ready to go.

I will PM you my number later this week. I can upgrade my phone on the 13th and I am going to change to the 719 area code.
