While serial numbers can be faked or forged, I can't imagine why anyone would on a scout, unless someone wanted it to be one of a handful that presumably have some special collector value, ie. a Midas SSII or such.
That being said, every line setting ticket I have looked at had the engine serial number written in just under the chassis number.
Also, the vin# is stamped on the frame at the factory.
So if I had a scout with an engine serial number on the engine that matched the LST and a frame vin number and door pillar plate vin # that also matched the LST I would consider it a "numbers matching" scout.
