Default Line-X exterior

Has anyone had any experience using Line-X (or a similar product) for the entire exterior?

I found a Scout II on Craigslist today which claims to have Line-X on the interior and exterior. Looks good (based on the photo, which is not a close-up).

Sounds like a great idea. I'd really like to go through the backroads without having to worry about branches or rocks chipping my paint.

I like the idea of a tough exterior coating

But I would check the body extreamly well to see what may have been covered by the lineX

spray in bedliner is great for the exterior, not only is it tough hard to scratch and chip. It makes body work easy because it hides alot. I like to use this stuff http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPRAY-BEDLIN...#ht_2842wt_911 It has the rubber that gives it the texture seperate so you can make it smooth or rough. her is a pic of a bumper I did this has a full bag of rubber added

good luck chris

If it was done right they can look very nice. There was a heep a few years back coated inside and out and it was the cleanest thing I've ever seen. Detailed to the max!

It looks great when applied, but I do wonder what happens when it finally does get worn or sun faded. I don't have details on Line-X in particular, but some of those products do fade and someone had best prepare and apply the surface correctly (or professionally).

The only definite downsides are that they add a LOT of weight and removing them if you wanted to repaint is difficult.

I've been thinking about hiding some indiscretions with it myself ;-)

I've seen it done on a Scout or 3 here and there, just saw one on youtube too. I've seen it in person on some jeeps and it definitely does appear to work well. I'm sure it adds a few dozen pounds, but that's likely little concern. It will attract dust and dirt and unless it's washed will look like it, it doesn't hide dirt as well as you might think.

We use Speedliner at the Local Motors Micro Factory. One thing to take into account is the application process. Line X and Rhino are sprayed hot, so it dries faster, and this is why its typically rougher.

However, Speedliner is sprayed cold-this means it takes significantly longer to dry up, but the texture is great! I plan on using it on the interior of the scout, and I won't have to worry about tearing up whatever I throw back there.

I just got off a phone call with Mark at ScoutM.A.D.ness who said something similar. He said "You don't want that stuff. You don't know what they've covered up. Also, it can get moisture under it, and one day you end up sticking your foot through the rubber floor."

After that call, I checked here, and thought more about it. While I definitely don't want to purchase one that has been Line-X'd (because like you and Mark say, I don't know what has been covered up), it seems like it would be okay if I make sure the vehicle is rust-free, solid and dry before applying it.

Of course, I have zero experience with it, so I'm listening very carefully to you guys here, and to Mark.

It sure would be nice to not have to worry about chips and scratches. If not via Line-X or Speedliner or a similar product, maybe there's another way?

I used MonstaLiner on my traveler's fiberglass top. It has "character". From what I can tell monstaliner from monstapints has be best claimed UV protection, meaning less fade.

As for everyone worrying about rust, if the application if correct then there won't be a problem. Rust needs oxygen. You can alwayts rust through from the other side of course, but usually the other side is not as exposed.

Putting your foot through a bed-liner, rusted floor would still be a better experience and offer more resistance than a non-bed-linered floor. So chedk the other side. If that is bed-linered too, then I don't see what you're worried about as it s now rust proof. However if it looks ok, then you can see just how bad it is.
