Default Re: Rotors cracking

the trouble started when trying to use the 'new' to you distributor?
the rotor worked fine with/on the original dist?
is the inside of the dist cap all chewed up from the rotor smacking it?
if not then its a mystery.
either the wrong rotor is being forced onto the dist shaft and cracking,
or the right rotor is on and then striking the inside of the cap.
assuming correct cap,rotor and dist.
then the dist shaft has WAY TOO MUCH SIDEPLAY- the upper shaft bushing is too loose
and the rotor IS strking the caps' electrodes.

Default Re: Rotors cracking; FINALE

Yep, it was the remanued distributor. A lot of you were right, it was the remanufactured distributor. I was having to force the rotor onto the shaft, once it was on, I thought "all good". But pushing the rotor onto the shaft apparently compromised the rotor, so when it started spinning like a dervish, it came undone. I took the guts out of remo, put them into the original dist, which the rotor slipped onto easy. All in place (including the dust cover), I am now running, with vacuum advance (missing for at least 3 years), original (rebuilt) electronic ignition (had been running pertronix since I cannot remember), and the infamous white wire, the deceleration sensor, now connected, which also fell by the wayside when the pertronix was installed. It was a long road, but the journey has ended well.
