Default 2732a Chip Reader Adapter

I had some left over parts after updating a '7747 ECM to a zif socket. I reassembled the factory 2732a chip socket to make an adapter socket, so I don't have to remove the factory chip from the chip holder. I then installed the old chip socket / holder into a 24 pin dip socket. The parts are "Snap Assembled" so it's easy "Unsnap" the adapter when handling. No more bent / broken pins reading a 2732a chip!

Here are the pics.

HA, I thought I was the only one who saw a need/was stupid enough to do this
I got so tire or bending pins getting the chips out of the stock holders. So one ecm I converted to a zif socket, I very carefully desodered and removed each pin from the board and then carefully inserted each one back into the socket. I then carefully inserted it into a dip socket just like you have done.
Was kinda a pain in the butt to do, but in the end I am glad I did it.

It's interesting but I guess I never saw a need once I learned how to remove the chips from the socket.
I will admit, I destroyed the first chip I tried. Then I figured it out and have had a problem since then.
I think Moates even made a demonstration video of how to remove them. Should be up on his site.

You still have to remove the chip from the original socket to remove the label to erase it.
After I burn them I put a label back on just to prevent ultraviolet light from getting to it.

If you remove the top center bars from the carrier it makes removing the chip fairly easy.

I dont burn those chips. Only reason I made mine was to read them.

The only reason I made the adapter is to read chips. Quite often I help someone tune who is using an aftermarket chip, or a chip that came with a TBI kit. I don't want to risk damaging an aftermarket chip by removing the chip from the chip holder. I don't want to cut the center cross bars from the aftermarket chip holder either.

Typically what I do is read the aftermarket chip and load the .bin into my Ostrich chip emulator. After figuring out what changes are needed to the "READ" .bin, the aftermarket chip / TBI kit supplier will be more than happy to supply a new chip with the required changes. I always wonder; what if an aftermarket chip / TBI kit supplier could data log an engine before supplying parts?

????

The data log is to verify and make minor changes to the basic tune using the parts and chip provided by the supplier. Logging data on a carbed engine prior to the conversion would be pointless.
Most engines with points and carbs aren't really tuned properly to begin with.

A system supplier should provide a cable and software with the system so the customer can log data after the initial installation. That way the tune can be adjusted for the specific engine.

That's what I provide with each of my kits.
